  • Thank you, Dr. Merzenich! I have followed this work since 2004 and the good doctor and company continue to improve the work-outs. This is for the betterment of society, using advanced research for our benefit and not hiding it away. Thank you so much, sincerely!

Brain plasticity is a great contribution by the Bhudism of science. Brain plasticity is nothing without ethics and morality.
  • "Legalize it, don't criticize it", Peter Tosh said many years ago. Now - however referring to our brain - we can say "Train it, don't drain it!". Now thanks to Mike Merzenich's great work, it turns out that our brain is in a way exempted from the usual 'wearing-out' process the rest of the body is subject to when aging. However - if he is right in "Soft-wired", there is also a feedback mechanism between the brain and the "rest" of the body, apparently with an effect of 'corporal healing' as well, although not that strong of course. He speaks of 'outcome', whereas I'd prefer 'solution' being the result of productive cerebral activity. I.o.w., 'hand-made' adequate solutions to specific problems as opposed to fabricated, more or less automatic results of everyday routine brain activity which seem to have no training effect on the brain and/or the body.

Couple years ago, I've watched this video till end and I felt that ı needed to rewatch it again. Since we build on brain and it is essential that we know enough information how it runs.

This is a masterpiece. I recently read something similar, and it was a masterpiece in its own right. "Unlocking the Brain's Full Potential" by Alexander Sterling

There’s a thread that runs through every single word that the speaker is espousing and this is that the brain’s plasticity is benign unless a professional intervenes to manipulate the brain’s fundamental biological structure so as to improve it’s basic functioning or prevent it’s degrading tendencies. And the changes are presumably designed to alter only the physiological makeup, therefore ignoring the mental or psychological perspectives which apparently are deemed to be unrelated to the healthy working of the brain’s output according to the theory underlying the research proposed by the speaker. No explanation for dismissing psychological aspects is included in the exposition of the matters regarding the subject of plasticity. Is the brain only a complex machine that operates purely according to the movements of plasticity as presented in this and other talks/lectures given by Michael Merzenich?

this makes me realize, the things I have hypothesized about, related to the abnormalities in my brain - maybe true. Excess use of the visual part, when I pursued photography, led to another part (brain) to experience reduced activity. When I stopped pursuing the visual arts, the part of my brain that that had reduced activity is now experienceing normal activity. Is this why I had my first seizure at 26 ?.
