Violent crime in New Orleans has unfortunately left many families with a familiar feeling - a feeling of devastation and loss. While some arrests have been made in homicide cases, giving families some closure, others are left in the dark.

That’s the case for the family of Bryan, Bradley and Brandon Veal. They are three brothers who were murdered within seven days of each other.

From the time of their murders in February 2021 until May 10, 2022, the Metropolitan Crime Commission recorded nearly 300 additional homicides. With that many cases to solve, their father wonders if he’ll ever get justice in his son’s brutal murders.

More than one year after losing their boys in one week, the family says they are still in the dark both literally and figuratively. The Veal family agreed to speak with WWL-TV with anonymity, shielding their names and faces from television cameras.

“To know that whoever the perpetrators are, are still walking around doing whatever and we have no idea who they could be or who they are,” says a family member. “So, for us to just come out and talk openly about it, it’s frightening.”

While you haven’t seen their faces, they’ve made sure their thoughts and voices are heard and seen. One voice we are hearing for the first time is that of the boy's father.

“My whole life has changed,” he says. “Anybody that’s experiencing death like that and then it being unsolved. There’s a super unfairness.”

The family members say they were out of town in Baton Rouge having dinner. When they parted ways, the boy’s father received a chilling phone call.

As a black family man in this country, I’ve said this before and I will continue saying it, the same energy we put into protesting when a white cop kills a black man should also be in situations like this. We need to protest door to door in our communities, some of these families are harboring criminals and they will never speak out as long as is not their child who’s dead. We are literally at war against ourselves. Our lives need to matter to us before it really does to anyone else. Things as little as shunning any song that promotes violence might just go a long way. I pray this family finds the strength to pull through.

This is literally insane. The fact that this wasn’t all over national news for weeks says a lot

As a mother of 3 sons, I could not imagine the pain of losing one of them let alone all 3 💔

Mr Veal, I knew your sons, Brandon and Bradley and I just want you to know your sons were something special. One of the best days of my life was spent with your boys. Know this, these were good boys, well mannered, respectful and good hearted. I think of Brandon and my little buddy Bradley all the time. This world is a much darker place without their shine.

I can't even imagine losing one child. Let alone three. This is so horrible on many levels. I'm praying peace for this family and that they'll get the justice they need and deserve.

How can they sleep at night knowing they took a life? These are people without a soul. My condolences to the family for loosing your sons.

You can totally tell that these boys had a good upbringing. This is so incredibly sad. My prayers go out to the family.

Something is missing from this story. Why would someone random kill 3 brothers? This was a targeted attack and I believe it was an inside job. Someone close to them or the family did it. Were there any insurance on these 3 men? If yes, follow the money.

To have to go silhouette out of fear after you’ve lost 3 family members is insane.
  • My heart and soul goes out to the parents!!! I have only an inkling of what they’re going through right now. My 22 year old son was murdered in November of 2021 and it’s still unsolved!!! He too was not a street kid or a trouble maker. Nor was he a violent person but a kind and helpful one. The car used in this homicide was also torched fully. We know someone out there knows something!!! I pray for justice for our sons!!!

Lost my Mom 2 yrs ago. It still often brings me to tears. My sister lost three sons also. When she heard her youngest died she emitted a sound so emotionally charged, unearthly & horrific it could only have been the anguish of her soul being torn apart. She survived but six years later she lost her oldest, now 20 yrs after that her middle son passed suddenly. Even at my advanced age my Mom is the first person close to me that I've ever lost. It's been extremely difficult. In the worst of times I've wondered, with a bit of awe, how could she muster the strength to go on. Utterly amazing how we survive.
