I'm Italian, my grandmother was a big fan of him and even organized a drive in theater while on vacation in Sardinia (Italy). She died in December, and one of her last wishes was watching a Sidney Poitier movie with all the family.
  • Don't forget from 1995 to 2003, Poitier served as a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company..In April 1997, Poitier was appointed ambassador from the Bahamas to Japan, a position he held until 2007. From 2002 to 2007, he was concurrently the ambassador of the Bahamas to UNESCO.

I have a great story about Portier. My grandmother worked the front desk at a building in Chicago. She was a huge fan and ran up to him and said "Sydney youve made my day! Her replied "no, you've made mine".. My grandma loved it so much. One of her favorite stories.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner was one of the most influential movies of my childhood/teen years. I didn't realize what he lived through before becoming an actor.
  • Sidney Poitier. A true legend. A trailblazer. Opener of doors of opportunities for those who came after him. An inspiration for many generations of young hopeful actors and future directors. Portier, along with Ozzie Davis, Ruby Dee and Harry Belafonte, made Hollywood a better, more equitable place for everyone in the film and television industries.📽️🎬🎭📺
  • Sidney was a great actor, I grew up on his work. He was the perfect actor, His roles meant something.
  • To sir with love, one of the greatest films ever. Sidney and lulu together, just love it.

Sidney Poitier was one of our best examples of what acting unites. The artistry allows a mixture of paints of an array absorbing colors that unite one to see life as it is. With the deepest appreciation and respect for your video.

  • Fantastic episode! The recently passed away John Wick series actor Lance Reddick always reminded me of him.
  • in the Heat of the NIght was a great movie and great performance by Mr. Poitier
  • To Sir With Love is such a wonderful and powerful movie. A great look at what happens when 'bad' students actually start to respect themselves and how that allows them to respect and care for others. Thanks for the great Biographic.
  • I remember my mom taking me to see “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner”. She considered it educational for me. Her teaching me to see all people equally must have worked. The woman I’ve spent my entire adult life married to doesn’t look like me.
  • Been a fan of his since the late 80 or early 90s. Learned a lot from this video that I never knew before, including that he died just over a year ago. I could've done without that last part though. Soon they will all be a distant memory. 😢
  • 👋 Hi Simon, Thank you for finally doing this bio. I absolutely adored Sidney Poitier. ❤
  • @subaruairbag
Sidney was a real treasure and will be sorely missed but remembered thanks to his impressive body of work
  • A most wonderful human being. I find his performances impeccable and masterful. 💯
