Trying to restore old stone walls - (our first time!) - Cottage restoration in Ireland.

This week we are finally getting to start restoring the ancient stone walls that make up our cottage, sheds and outbuildings.
We are trying to turn this old stone shed into a cozy tiny home, starting with the stonework in what will become the off grid office, before we get onto the "snug" (or living room).
We start the process of raking out the joints, ready to repoint with traditional materials. We will be repointing with hot lime mortar in preparation for replastering with lime and rendering the outside with a lime render, or just a simple lime wash.
After weeks of major demolition and knocking walls down, it s nice to be doing something that means we are actually restoring some of the stone walls, which is a big part of why we bought this little remote country cottage in the first place.
Renovating our new home really is starting to get exciting now, there's a long way to go as this is just the start but we can't wait to see how this home renovation goes!

Hopefully you are enjoying this renovation series as much as we are, and we are managing to show you just some of the trials, tribulations, and work, involved when restoring an old property.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, including the local wildlife and nature mixed with our usual female foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!

Check out our older videos and follow our us journey attempting to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempted to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.

My Sunday routine: Drive to the gas station and buy a chocolate croissant, drive back home, get comfy and cozy, snack my chocolate croissant while watching your new video. 😌🤝🏻

Poor oul' AJ - never easy getting old. I genuinely couldn't see the appeal in the stone walls until you cleaned them out. Amazing to think that they have stood for maybe 300 years and seen 12-15 generations living under the roof. Great to see the history revealing itself.
  • Been patiently waiting for this to pop up lol can't wait to see what you two lovelies have done this week. Give love and treats to Aj and Summer from us.
  • What I like about you guys is you're fearless. It can be so daunting to tackle projects from the outset, particularly if it's a first time. The beauty is that , once completed, you feel a huge sense of achievement. Great energy again guys. 😎🇬🇷

Canadian fan here. What a delightful distraction from all the craziness in this world your videos are! I so appreciate and enjoy them. Love your vision for the property and all the knowledge you're sharing with us along the way!

You have worked so hard on your cottage. I can imagine how beautiful it will look when you are done. Hope AJ is doing better.
  • I’m so glad you love Ireland and Ireland loves you. I’m waiting with trepidation now for AJ’s result from the vets. Chris.
  • I’m surprised that the builders haven’t covered the hole where the chimney was. The walls and floor look so beautiful. I hope A.J is feeling better now. ❤❤ I can’t wait until next week to see all the changes. Love you gals.

I do hope AJ is doing better now. Getting older ain't for sissies. I love all the progress and am already eager for this week to pass quickly!

I would dig out all the floor sets and keep. Dig out the dirt, then relay the stones in a damp dry concrete mix, level obvs. Waterproofer in the concrete would help keep rising damp out OR place the entire mix on a new DPM with laps up the side walls would be more effective then the sets in. Good to see you rising to some big challenges !

Excellent work you too! Yay! So fun watching you every Sunday from the warmth and comfort of my bed as I recover from a total knee replacement and remembering all the hard work I used to do as well! You're both doing amazing!

Hello from Tracy, California. Love watching you guys every week. Last week I was thinking how nice it would be if you took us about your new little town with you. So it was a small treat this morning to see you go into town for AJ. Hopefully we'll get to see a bit more of that in the future. Love watching you guys create your dream home!
  • Can’t wait to see the next video. I look forward every Sunday to seeing what you have been able to do.
  • Cottage is looking fantastic you are working so hard keep safe you both and get well soon AJ and Summer you are looking content being fluffed by Emily 💕

No I was so engrossed in all the work you were doing, and then the filming ended. I could watch you forever. Bless AJ. The left side is to do with feminine energy. Up your motherly love and he'll be happy and more at ease and hopefully start to heal. Can't wait for next week. ❤❤❤
