Sam Riegel is easy mode. Cause he laughs when a dog farts. Matt Mercer is hard mode. Cause he has to keep that straight face when doing NPCs.
-
Matthew "Ironwill" Mercer. He's been dealing with a group of seven to nine schmucks trying to get him to laugh for 5 years
-
The thing about Matt, his jokes here aren't based on subverting, he literally doubles down on the bit. It's ridiculous how good his timing is.
-
Matt was horrifyingly accurate with his ability to assess what type of humor would make the person in the chair laugh. Sam = fun voice/basically a pervy side character from Vox Machina. Olivia = completely bizarre without reason. Courtney = Marvel reference. Damien = Video game reference with allusions to anime. Shayne = Character-based with a movie reference.

4:40 Matt legit just saw: -Baby Doll -Cultist Robe -Plague Doctor Mask -Shakeweight and said, "yeah, I can work with this." AND THEN DID
-
It's good that Matt stopped his rituel when he did. Had he finished it, Talisin would've appeared.
-
Wow that Matt Mercer fellow is really good at making voices, he should try voice acting!
-
Matt immediately got Olivia's type of humor and how to make her laugh, and that's honestly one of the biggest credits to his skill and talent
-
Sam and Matt have the energy of the older cousins at a family gathering that got bored with what the adults were doing and so they went to go hang out with the younger kids and have no idea what they’re doing but they’re just following along and joining in on their fun
-
The way Matt looked at Sam looked like he was about to give him disadvantages on all his rolls for the next session.
-
Seeing Matt and Sam outside of their usual context is so wild. They have homeschooler energy in a way that is so endearing (and very relatable as a former homeschooler myself)
-
I like how quickly they go from, "Sam is an easy laugh," to, "Oh god no, it's Sam."
-
"My kids can't hear because they're listening to KIDZ BOP" I lost my shit there
-
I fully expected Sam to walk up to Matt and just say "guys... DnD Beyond..."
-
With all the stuff that the Critical Role gang has pulled over the years that Matt has managed to keep a poker face throughout the whole thing, I’m honestly surprised that any of these guys broke him at all. Props to Shane for getting him to laugh like that.
-
We need a FULL CRITICAL ROLE SQUAD TRY NOT TO LAUGH!
-
The Smosh crew had no chance with Sam Riegel. Matt, however, has had years of Sam training him for this moment.
-
Liam and Sam have made Matt indestructible. He's too powerful now.
-
You can tell Sam literally just poured his life and soul into that and Matt still didn’t laugh.

I love watching Shayne's eyes change as Damien calls him Tom Cruise like Tom Cruise is some kind of beetlejuice demon that's summoned in Shayne's body after only saying his name once
