  • Paul, make some camping videos where you get a cheap flight to a different country and do a camp then fly back. Just pack into a carry on! Would love to see that!

Could you do a video on budget friendly quilts/sleeping bags?

Hi, Paul. Great video. I still use my Vango Banshee 200 and would highly recommend it. It's a very easy to use and reliable tent. I bought mine second hand about 6 years ago and it is still going strong and never let me down.

I've got one from Decathlon that i paid £30 took to snowdonia and other places and never let me down

Vango Banshee 300, no contest. Had 2 now, first lasted over 100 camping trips in everything from 35+ to biblical storms or snow and was only retired due to it getting untrustworthy with the groundsheet getting a bit thin. 5 minutes up or down, easy to pack. Can still be had for £175, would buy another if this one goes
  • Another good video, cheers! I ended up buying a Wild Country Helm Compact 2 after your review of the 1 person version. Absolutely love it! Maybe a touch overkill in summer, but as my only tent it's been superb. I picked that up for less than £200.

I have the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2. I have taken it out in rain and it worked great. I haven't used it in heavy winds but then again I wouldn't go out in heavy winds. I am almost 60 and it was light enough for me. Thanks Paul. Great video.

Great video. Loving the extended daily vlog past June 30th. Thanks!!
  • @TG91ism
I opted for Coleman's cobra 2. Never gets mentioned much but for £65 when I got it, I think it's absolutely solid
  • @dassfresh
Love your gear talks Paul! I just bought the Wild Country Trisar using your terra nova code, so thanks very much!

Good advice as usual. However, the weather can be unpredictable. I took my Vango Soul 200(c £50-60 in sales) into the Cairngorms last Monday. Forecast was fair with light winds but the Lairig Ghru funnelled those winds so that they were hitting me at about 40mph and the fibreglass rear pole broke (I'd already replaced the front one with alloy). The tent stayed up but thrashed around a lot. I took the Vango coz it has a bulletproof groundsheet and I knew the ground would likely be wet and/or stony... Still, a broken tent (at that price) means a new tent! 🙂 Looking at splashing out on the Durston Xmid2, a bit over the £200 budget though!

I'm finding these informative videos of great interest. Really enjoying the daily vids still.

Managed to pick up a MSR Elixir 1 for 170 euro, a really good deal!
  • @johnmccarron
Lanshan 1 and 2 have done the longest hike, An 864 kilometre-long long-distance walking route running the length of Scotland from Kirk Yetholm in the Borders to Cape Wrath.

I've got a Zephyros Compact 1 which you can get for under £180 at Cotswold Outdoor at the moment - it doesn't have the details of some other tents (pockets for specs, etc. inside) but has been pretty solid on several cycle tours. Good sized vestibule for size of tent. I've also got an Alpit Jaran 2, which is also in the Alpkit sale at £199, and feels luxurious with 4 pockets, two doors, two vestibules, but is definitely a 3 season tent as there's lots of mesh. It does cope with wind and rain, tested in Cheshire and Anglesey last year!
  • Happy Saturday Paul. Congratulations on completing the June Challenge - I’m really impressed as you are still doing a video a day even though it’s June. Really enjoyed the different style content with you and Jo. Keep up the fantastic work. I’m Sending you a coffee . Good luck

Excellent video Paul. Just what I was after! Always hard to know how much (or little) to spend on gear.
  • Thanks Paul - another great video. I can recommend the Luxe Hexpeak V4a - a little more expensive at around £250, but sheds wind and snow like nobodies business. For a "one tent to rule them all" for almost all year round, can't recommend enough. Takes a little more time to set up with a trekking pole, but once up, its not going anywhere.

I've just received in post 2x four season Astagear tents; New Snow and Fengyin for under £170 each I haven't tried them yet but I'm happy with them as imho 4:41 they are the best that I can afford. I'd appreciate it if someone could share their experience of these tents 🙏
