MTRLqzgOj Nvidia's Pissed

From its humble beginnings as a graphics card maker to its current status as an AI powerhouse, Nvidia's journey is nothing short of remarkable.

But how did this transformation happen, and what does it mean for the future of computing?

Nvidia's story begins in 1993 when three friends - Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem - founded the company with a vision to revolutionize computer graphics. At the time, PCs were primarily used for word processing and simple tasks. The founders saw an opportunity to bring high-quality graphics, previously only possible on expensive workstations, to everyday computers.

Their first big break came in 1995 with the release of the NV1, Nvidia's first graphics processing unit or GPU. While it wasn't an immediate success, it laid the groundwork for future innovations. The real game-changer arrived in 1999 with the GeForce 256, marketed as the world's first GPU. This chip could handle complex 3D calculations, freeing up the computer's main processor for other tasks. Gamers loved it, and Nvidia quickly became a favorite among PC enthusiasts.

Neither Nvidia, EVGA, Apple nor AMD produce their own semiconductor chips. They all use the world's largest foundry TSMC. These companies design their own semiconductors, but they rely on foundries like TSMC, Samsung or Global Foundries for their chip manufacturing. Intel has a small foundry operation, but they have not yet matched the advanced process node that TSMC can provide. Nvidia has expanded far beyond hardware. They provide the hardware and the software for AI. Furthermore, with their partner SMCI, they can provide the racks ready for installation into server farms.

Apple is a closed ecosystem, Nvidia is open source. Apple is more consumer AI, Nvidia is industrial AI. Two different companies that can easily exist in the same space.

NVDA is the leader and will stay that way for next 10 years

Apple wants you to be stuck in their ecosystem. 8gb of memory was a standard with ddr3, that’s still their on their current base computers.

The advantage is when more people do the same thing, they get better and better and the price drops..

    Every one benefits from competition.

I don’t feel Apple is a threat to Nvidia, but they eviscerated Intel. Apple doesn’t really have aims for data processing for data centers (except maybe its own). I could see them developing their own A.I. data center chips, it only for themselves.

Nvdia future development might be enhanced by allowing retired professionals that are invested in NVIDIA to participate in development. A wholly-owned brain trust dedicated to solving specific problems just might work.

Apple was going to demolish Tesla with its electric car. Well that did not end well for Apple. Apple is phones and it’s not even very innovative any more.

NVIDIA write history by making avaliable the capability to use local AI models without need of internet. All the others try to copy this success and comes second.

While Apples M chips look pretty good, it does not mean it can take over Nvda chips easily. Chip designs (for different usage model) is not simple. The example mentioned in this video on M1 success was primarily due to the choice of foundry. Apple had to ditch Intel chips for the Mac computer because Intel process node was lagging TSMC at that time. As a result, Apple M chip success was really attributed by TSMC. Now, with both Nvda and Apple using TSMC, it is not easy to take over Nvda's chip design just like that.

Interesting but no one knows the end question. As a consumer I want lower prices. Seems to me the Tek industry at large is on a huge treasure hunt.

And how will Apple make enough cheaps to compete and keep the prices competitive with Apple?

Since the release of M1 chip, I have been dreaming of having a macbook for gaming, video production, and other graphics extensive tasks. But the problem I have heard with Apple's chip even until now is when it comes to gaming. Their M chips can't compete yet with NVIDIA. Gaming was lacking according to many people who have experienced it. Right now, most people still use NVIDIA graphics for gaming. But if we're talking about video editing, Apple's M chip is by far the most reliable of all.. I just hate their iPhone so I'm still using android phones that are more capable than iPhone. Also, not to mention that Apple has been the copycat in tech industry. It's no surprise that they copy NVIDIA.

For Nvidia, the sky is the limit. This is the end of the beginning.Apple will not license their chips because they want to make sure Mac OS only runs on apple hardware. The best we can hope for is that the Mac will become dramatically more powerful. Perhaps Apple will create a data center architecture.Inagine A data center completely designed to run MacOS. Think a rebirth of xserve.
