I could no longer ignore this topic because a) it's an is amazing watercolor technique and b) it's so often overlooked by general watercolor tutorials... but it's so so so important, especially when we want to paint realistic botanicals! This video is dedicated to showcasing "wet-on-damp" - that elusive technique that can take place between wet on wet and wet on dry, and produces gorgeous soft and natural looking effects. Enjoy!

If there’s ONE thing that would’ve saved my many beginner struggles, it would be to be taught from the very beginning that watercoloring doesn’t boil down to two states, wet & dry, but three, and damp being one where so so so much of the magic happens. Beautiful tutorial!
  • Just a side note..the “blue” orchids at the grocery store are actually white! If you look, there is a little green floral tape on each bloom stalk, that hides an injection site of blue dye. The orchids will bloom white on future blooms..

I have been doing watercolor for over 2 years now, but honestly I always struggled with Botanical because they always come out to stark and look unrealistic. This wet on damp technique looks very good for the details so I will definately try and see if it makes a difference!
  • @sanjeevni_
This tip makes so much sense! Probably one of the reasons why i couldn't get the exact results that they would show in the tutorials! Thank you so much 🌷
  • Thank you so much for sharing this technique and your approaches, tips and tricks relating to it. I am very inspired 💡 by this! It is going to be very challenging and will take a long time to master. It will really test my patience, especially because im already struggling with timing and water amount. I just know though that practising this can only improve my watercolour painting skills! Thank you again so much, Anna. 💖💐☺️

I have used this technique before but I am not very good at it. I love the results it produces. This video has inspired me to go back and give it another try. I enjoyed watching you paint the orchids as well. Thank you for sharing and I’ll definitely revisit the videos you mention to practice this more. I hope you have an incredible day and I’m excited to see the dragonfly when it’s added
  • I love this technique I discovered it accidentally. I use it when I want some realism in my painting but not too much where I lose the beautiful effects of water color. It takes working at it and sometimes instinct.
  • @moongardenglow
That is extraordinary art. How fine and delicately you captured the beauty of the flowers.

Gorgeous details and thank you for showing your technique for achieving it.💙
  • Familiar with this technique, it does take a bit more patience, but who is in a hurry when painting botanicals?!?!. Thank you Anne for a fantastic tutorial.

Skills like this are what creates a highly skilled artist. Thanks.
  • So lovely. I admire your steady hand. Having a tremor personally I try to make the fine lines but the harder I concentrate the more wobbly it gets. Thanks for your video.
