Record of Grancrest War Actually Does Fantasy Well

I'm pretty sure no one else other than me watched this anime earlier this year. I wanted to talk about some of the fantasy specific things that I think the show does well and apparently that was very difficult to do without summarizing the plot. Anyway, Grancrest War is a good show with some writing problems.

    Well a lot of the issue with the show's plot come from the fact they tried to cram 10 books (light novels sure but still) into 24 episodes. Doesn't excuse the shortcomings but that should explain some stuff. I really enjoyed it but yeah I would also give it a 7.5/10. I liked Theo&co so I didn't mind the Sistina campaign but Altirk's siege was a big high point of the show and should have been a season finale, like an episode 20 or 24 .... but it could could have been hit by the "no season 2" curse.

    I got to the fight in the thumbnail and decided to look up a review to see what people thought of the show, only to realize I paused on the exact scene in the thumbnail

    My biggest issue with it is that Milza, who is very explicitly presented as Grancrest's equivalent of an Arab, is all the classic anti-Arab racist tropes packaged into one: bloodthirsty, ruthlessly ambitious, fickle, arrogantly self-reliant, and don't get me started on the "thing" that happens between him and Marinne. I still appreciate the rest of the story, but Milza can go die in a hole. He isn't an inherently problematic character. The problem is Grancrest Senki doesn't exist in a vacuum, and when Milza is interchangeable with a lot of the racist caricatures of Arabs out there... We need an FE game of this, music, animation and all. 13:42 - Ideal White is also one of my favourite songs of all time! First one I was ever really obsessed with.
