France Is Building A $28 Billion Tunnel To Italy Through The Alps - Turin Lyon Railway

France and Italy rank as each other's second-largest trading partners, with trade between them amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Thus, establishing a high-quality transport link is economically vital. However, the Alps Mountain range, stretching across the entire Franco-Italian border and reaching elevations of up to 3 miles above sea level, poses a significant challenge to achieving this transport goal. But in a bold endeavour to connect the two nations, France and Italy are now undertaking the construction of a $28 billion railway through the Alps. Today, we will explore the new Turin-Lyon Railway, examining the scope of its construction, its distinctive features, and its positive and negative impacts.

  • Change the title, it is being built by both Italy and France
  • It is France AND Italy together that build the tunnel, not only France. The Swiss have done this on their own some years ago with the Gotthard tunnel of 55 km.
  • Wtf, it's both France AND Italy, why highlight only France on the title? It's a serious channel this?

This is impressive ! Meanwhile here in Québec, Canada we can't afford asphalt for our roads and besides, in Canada, we don't care for trains.
  • Connectivity & Transparency is the Future of Europe 🇪🇺
  • Great project. Seems to be going ok. If it was in the UK it would now be three years behind schedule, and four times over budget. Time we had a Manchester to Leeds base tunnel……………
  • Quite impressive.Italy especially needs to get rid of very short stage length flights, which France supposedly is implementing.

Why distances in miles? The international unit is the kilometer, wake up, man!

I’m curious where exactly this railway will go. I often think railway should be used for the goods transport. As it’s right now European motorways are taken over by trucks . I look forward . A month ago we were driving from Turin🇮🇹 to Swiss town of Montreux and there is unfortunately no railway there . Would be nice to connect the railway to Switzerland too …

Not concerned with CO2 emissions but greater efficiency and convenience is to be applauded. Am amazed the EU is putting up 40% of the cost. Seems a high contribution when the marginal benefit to other countries will not be that large?
  • The worlds gonna look like a hollowed out minecraft server soon
  • Completely misleading! There's not one single Dollar spent on that project! It's in Europe (a lesser-known geographical area outside the U S., but still on earth). And YES, there's human life outside the U.S., with people speaking their own languages, using their own measures und having their own currencies!
  • Your video is verbaly correct but your images are way from being right. You are talking ofFrance and Italy but showing the railways of the UK on occasions. You need better research on the imagaes side. PS and the New York subway????
  • I believe Sydney can be connected to Melbourne via Canberra and Albury with overnight container Japanese SC container trains removing all trucks and planes on that route with 60 Chinese TBM in three years for less than au $100b with the Parrahub project.
  • @donberg01
All these CO2 emissions seems to be pie in the sky values.
