On the last day of the winter session of the Lok Sabha, the BJP-led government on Tuesday tabled a constitutional amendment bill to provide 10 per cent reservation in jobs and higher education to economically backward sections among the upper castes. The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Fourth Amendment) Bill on Monday. Now that it has been passed in the Lower House, the Bill will be moved in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday — the winter session has been extended by a day for members in the Upper House. The Bill needs to be passed by a special majority of two-thirds of members present in each House, not less than half the strength in both. Following this, it will have to be ratified by at least half of the state legislatures. It will also have to face legal challenges if any. On this edition of the big picture we analyse the Constitution 124th Amendment Bill.

  • @n3bw724
Whenever Sai speaks, I slowdown the video to normal.😅
  • If 8L /year is criteria for poverty ,then i think India's poverty line should be changed
  • Why Reservation ......Instead of giving reservation provide them free coaching and personality development programs. ... Reservations is just sucking our country's growth ... our mentality is still backward
  • How can Sai Deepak remember such minute intricacies in the laws, what a memory..
  • Advocate J sai Deepak is an excellent speaker and treasure of knowledge 👍
  • Economic? How will you ..When the income is not consistent being 95% informal sector.
  • now few businessmen will show wrong accounts and get benefitted as there was more informal sector .... it is hard to categorise and justify the criteria
  • I am fed up of such kinds of reservations..... 50% total reservations already existed for SC,ST'S,OBC AND Reserved ones. This was not enough and there is again 10% reservation.... I mean why so must injustice towards medium class general cateogories..... AT LEAST WHY NO ONE IS THINKING OF NATIONAL INTEREST.... IT'S IN THE FAVOUR OF NATIONAL INTEREST THAT MORE QUALIFIED AND SKILLFUL PERSONS CAN GET THE DESIRED POSTS AND SEATS EVERYWHERE.... THESE POLITICIANS NEED GENERAL CATEOGORY DOCTORS,ENGINEERS AND SKILLFUL SERVICEMEN FOR THEIR USE BUT ARE NUMBER ONE IN GIVING RESERVATIONS FOR POLITICAL INTERESTS......I MEANS ITS A SELFISH WIN WIN SITUATION FOR POLITICIANS.....
  • "while historical injustice can form the basis for affirmative actions on the basis of caste based prejudice or social parameters as well, time has come for the court, executive of the government to start thinking of other reasons for backwardness including economic backwardness because the goal of reservation is to address the distress community"
  • Noted Advocate Nani Palkiwala said during the Indira Sawney judgement, that it will cement castism in India. Now this will cement classism in India. Reservation of caste seems to have no sun set clause. Now this will go down the same road.
