Technical Tuesday: IDPA vs USPSA

Publicado 2023-09-05
If you have ever, even for a second, considered competition shooting, please watch this video.

Quinn and Trevor talk through the differences between USPSA and IDPA and what Shadow Systems guns will fit in each category. The central message here is "go for it!" You don't need fancy equipment or specialized ammunition to start. Trevor started with a GI .45 and 7 round magazines. Competition is the fastest way to learn. Find a USPSA or IDPA match near you and check it out!

For guys who carry and haven't competed, I strongly recommend competing with your normal carry gear, just with more magazines. Test your skills under pressure. Don't go there to with the match. Go there to win the gunfight. I use my concealed carry gear and compete in Open with my War Poet, so I ain't winning any matches any time soon. 😁

IDPA was created by Bill Wilson, after seeing the success of USPSA. He needed a place to sell his very expensive 1911s. Match and rules geared for single stacks. But still pretty good practice.

FYI, IDPA is now 15 rounds in Stock service pistol. You can also use comps in ESP and Carry optics as long as the comp is integrated into the gun, no screw on comps. The DRP is legal in both those divisions, stated by our state coordinator. I shoot my DRP in carry optics, My DR920L in Stock service and my Mr920 in CCP. Love em!

In my first local USPSA match IPSC world champion Luke Cao was in my squad. It was a humbling learning experience. I just did my best to watch & soak up as much knowledge as I could & not do anything stupid to get myself dq'd
  • @Rusty_ok
Great video thanks for explaining all this.. we have a private group that meets every Thursday and shoot IDPA style courses. Most fun you can have with your clothes on.
  • @jsmcneese7
You can now do ports and comps in CO in idpa as well.

My first match I shot woth Morgan Leonhardt. No idea who she was at the time but it was a humbling experience to say the least
  • I used to shoot 3-4 times a year and was in squads with Master and Grand Master shooters. They knew I was good but not up to their class (D and C rated) Only sport that the best would stand next to you, offer advice and treat you like a peer with very few exceptions. Took 20 year break now looking to start up again

I typically try to comment relevant to the video at hand however, i cant help but ask if there's any expected timeframe to see the cr920p in stock at places?

USPSA has a Limited Optic provisional category now. I shot limited major and moving toward limited optic.
  • Question, for carry optics, is there any advantage in shooting the dr920L vs the standard dr920?
  • @ditzwinkle
Are use the MR 920 and it performs very very well out of the box with a compensator. I use that for all my competitions and I usually rank from 2nd to 5th place on the last nine competitions now I cannot say that about the CR 920 is completely shit when it comes to Accracy as my back up gun

Any chance for a SS larger aluminium magwell ?
  • @DavidBrown-wo9ip
Maybe Quinn and Shadow Systems could offer classes on competitive shooting.😎✌️
