For the record, not all carbon spokes are created equally. Winspace/Lún use "ST" and Farsports / Elite use "BYX" (You can tell by the laser etching on the spokes. BYX usually have no markings, ST will say "ST-01")

I purchased a pair of Elite 50v wheels about 12 months ago, after 7k kilometers rear wheel hub failed (after bearings where changed still had excessive play in it) I emailed them thinking I wouldn’t hear anything but was surprised to hear straight back asking for a video of said fault and within a week I received a new freehub, new spoke nipples and manual with tension tolerances.

I'm a habitual chinese carbon parts buyer and I do enjoy being able to get basically direct from the manufacture pricing but that pricing comes with the risk that you're basically on your own with servicing and maintaining this stuff. If you're expecting the level of service that this guy expects you should not be buying these parts and just let the LBS handle everything for you

Greatly appreciate the content yet again! After months of reading and watching many carbon wheelsets I decided on ordering a set of 50D Elite wheels. I have high expectations for the set not yet delivered, but your review(s) of this brand has been helpful. Your honestly is essential in all that your sharing, keep up the great work!

My man...just pay the $60 and get back out and ride. Shit happens. Stellar warranty service ala Zipp/etc. comes with that kind of price tag. An attorney who doesn't understand the value of time...or pulling all the strings possible to get a new wheelset, all over a broken spoke. Props to you, Grant. Everyone went above and beyond for this guy. You shouldn't have posted this as everyone will be wanting the same level of help from you! 😂😂

I purchased a pair of Elite 50 ENT wheels about 6 months ago, they took an age to arrive in the UK but had a slightly rough bearing in the freehub, I emailed them thinking I wouldn’t hear anything but was surprised to hear straight back asking for a video of said fault and within a week I received a new freehub by airmail and they cost me £300
  • On a half serious half joking note, the guy was probably trying to use his attorney experience on you there a bit even though you were just trying to help. On a completely serious note, he's an attorney, he argues for a living. Good on you for stepping in and helping him out.
  • @vitskr1
I've purchased my 50Ds right after GC review. About 2500km later no issues. I weight 100kg but roads here are very smooth
  • @jimtro4403
Thanks for posting this, love your videos and you just being a down to earth guy! This video is shows me that they do stand behind their product albeit with some prodding and vetting but some people have that feeling of entitlement. You can literally buy 2 sets of Drive 50 wheels for what a set of Zipp 303 goes for.
  • To be honest, they should just send him new spokes and say goodbye. Wanting whole new wheel for 3 broken spokes is hilarious. I've broken many spokes in my biking carrier, sometimes many per ride (MTB obviously) and I don't think that I was "concerned for safety" just replace spokes and ride on.
  • @timtaylor9590
the best thing elite got going for them is theyre light, i noticed they flex just as much as my other wheels with steel spokes, hypers are known to be stiffer, i will look to try those next
  • That's why I like zipp and enve. Companies like them have really good customer service but they would want to inspect the damaged wheel for future builds. Constant study and improving the wheels day y day.
  • @qibble455
Great video. The guy sounds like a nightmare lol. Imagine selling a car to this guy or building his patio.
  • @donwinston
This guy lives in a fantasy world. No wheel manufacturer is going to replace the whole wheel because of a few broken spokes. Broken spokes don't mean the whole wheel is suspect. That is silly. Broken spokes happen all the frigging time. Drive wheels are ridiculously light. It is not surprising they may break hitting a sharp bump. Wheel building is not rocket science. They offered to send him new spokes. There is no real safety issue. Just replace the frigging spokes and be happy.
  • @galenkehler
Why are you giving this guy such airtime? I mean we've all run into these kind of people for whom nothing is satisfactory, we don't need to promote them.
  • As a wheelbuilder I'm not saying carbon spokes are bad per se. I believer for high performance wheels they might just be the future. But at the moment I'm not convinced they're worth the trouble and the up in cost. A) Spare supply in the long run would be a concern to me and B) IMO the jury is still out on the long term durability of these spokes. Carbon spokes are a lot less flexible than steel spokes. But it is the flexibility and the spokes ability to be stretched und put under pre-tension that enables a wheel to take continuous hits without going out of true in the long run.
  • @radfactoro2
I've been dealing with Elitewheels for several years as I sell it as an "empty/blank wheelset". There are so professional and attentive with my request. E.g., for the front hub issue on as the same as Drive, they already send me the improve version one to provide to the buyers. Anyway, I always prefer Sapim/Pillar spokes rather than the carbon one :).
  • @Onigure
I have those exact same wheels. Really nice for the price. I don't believe in ceramic bearings performance, so Im waiting for the 5000km mark to update them to SKFs steel bearings. As I saw the video I rushed to check on my wheels, the spokes are fine, great even. Maybe because my weight is 70kg I have only broken 2 spokes in all my cycling life tho 😁.
  • I recently had a rear Enve foundation 45 wheel break 1 spoke(sapim cx) right at the nipple inside the rim while just cruising a smooth road. Enve rebuilt the wheel with a new rim. First time busting any spoke, but I don’t think I’ll risk riding with any carbon spoked wheel, USA made or not, anytime soon lol.
  • @js962
2 Spokes on my Roval Terra Clx rear Wheel were broken last year. I had ca 3000 km on them. According to specialized dealer it was a matter of wear and tear. The bike shop replaced them for me but I paid for it myself
