Replacing LiPo Main/Balance Leads

Published 2017-01-09
It's super annoying when a balance lead gets chopped off or the main LiPo battery leads becomes damaged. But dont worry, its not trash. I keep my leads from old batteries and use those for replacement.

10 pack of 2s - 6s balance leads for $2-$3 - www.banggood.com/10Pairs-22AWG-100mm-2S-3S-4S-5S-6…

5 pack premade main leads for $7 - www.banggood.com/5-Pcs-AMASS-XT60-Male-Plug-Connec…

My 40mm heat shrink comes from ReadyMadeRC.com. Not sure where else to get the clear kind.

Anyone else here in 2021 and still learning from this man? I had no idea he passed years ago, let alone in a motorcycle accident which really struck a chord with me since I'm an avid rider. Ride in Paradise!
  • This channel has taugh me so much about wiring and how our lipos work. RIP dude.
  • @dr00minFPV
Thanks dude, it worked for me. I am so glad I saved this awesome 1500mah LiHV 6S. The only difference, the balance lead solder point was so hard to melt, my soldering iron kept dropping temperature and I ended up solder-repairing the cable itself.

Thank you for your help, once again. I know you’re not with us anymore, but your videos are better than anyone else’s. RIP

always hits hard when you google something and a project blue falcon vid is the first thing that shows up. RIP

Love your videos! Consider using a chisel tip on connections with that much solder. The larger tip acts as a heatsink to prevent fluctuations in temp from the heating element to the solder work. edit: also consider popping out and switching the balance leads to get brown to be ground in order to know 100% which side is ground in the future
  • That was so helpful!!! And I think your video is the only one of its kind on YouTube! You explained everything so perfectly and why you did other things. It couldn’t have been any better! Thank you
  • Excellent video JD. Still teaching is. RIP...and thank you for your instructional videos. Always top notch.

Amazing how you keep helping me bro, may your soul rest in peace!
  • @TurboTyler
You make some of the best videos man, appreciated.

More great content, thanks. Just one suggestion, when you said "blow hot air" down the heat shrink to get the condensation so that I will slide, maybe you want to clarify for others that you are breathing hot air from your mouth as opposed to using a hot air gun or something. Just thought it could potentially catch someone out 😉

You can stretch shrink tubing bigger before shrinkiing it . Needle nose pliers stuck into small tubing and then spread the handles . That will fit over an sma antenna connection.

This is a very excellent educational vid on the construction of these batteries... they're expensive enough that I wouldn't consider cutting the heat shrink off the packs at all, but this broke things down very well!
  • @rodheal
You can 'wet' any contacts that don't soften quickly with a flux pen. Great video to save batteries which have lead damage only.
