The #UAE craves #power disproportionate to its size. The state has steadily transformed from the Manhattan of the Middle East to the region’s 'Little Sparta’.

  • "Going Commando" means something very different in western vernacular.
  • Not sure I would compare the UAE to Sparta. They come off more as Venetian. Just with less boats and more buildings.
  • Great video! But you should've also talked about the Sudan civil war and how the Emirates and Saudis support opposite sides in the war which has led to problems (UAE supporting the RSF while Saudi and USA supporting the Army)
  • @TheHabsification
It's one of the reasons why Saudi Arabia has their Vision 2030. Mohammed bin Salman understood very quickly they can no longer rely on fossil fuels, they saw how UAE is now less reliant on fossil fuels. At one point fossil fuels were pretty much 100% of the UAE's economy, now it's 30% that is massive diversification of the economy. And MBS can see they need to diversify the economy as soon as possible otherwise they will get left behind.

They thrive on money laundering, helping other to avoid sanctions etc. simply regional countries need such place! Cheers from Switzerland, we used to be like this!

Politics has no relation to morals..... So true, and so tragic.
  • @aguerrero
Different to other of your videos, this one seems to have been quite sanitized. It seems more like an eulogy (UAE can't do any wrong, every action is justified and rational). It doesn't provide the critical view of issues as in other Caspian Report videos. Like the involvement in the Sudan crisis. Or the role in the Yemeni war. Always in sides that oppose KSA interests. I'm puzzled.

The UAE is what MBS wants Saudia to become. Albeit even more successful.

We should not ignore the misstreatment of migrant workers in the country and down right human trafficking considering the many cases in which passports were confiscated upon arrival. They make empty promises of good salary to later relocate then to guettos.
  • @FarisAl-Said
Neutrality in regional conflicts? They were the ones that spearheaded the isolation of Qatar back in 2017, they were involved in Libya, they were involved in Yemen, they were involved in Syria. It is quite literally the opposite of being neutral

Of course it helped that for over 100 years before the discovery of oil in the region, Dubai was a trade hub with a well established free market economy.

Maybe having many wealthy people living in or having property in Dubai gives it some political leverage worldwide
  • @KarlRock
Really interesting analysis. Thanks for the video!😊
  • @Campaigner82
When you said “going Commando” I got a vision of their leader in their veil thingy and nothing else walking around the sand dunes 😄
  • Thank you this is one of the best channels I've added to my list, keep up the good 👍 work, can't get enough

Great analysis, one thing to add would be the aspects of the UAE/Turkey rivalry. The UAE leadership got spooked by Turkey years ago, which gives impetus when UAE invests in Somaliland for Ethiopian recognition and the Turks making a deal with the Somali state in Mogadishu. Egypt and Sudan will be key there, especially how Sudan is in Flux as is most of the Red Sea.

Before this video even starts, I say this everytime. If you remove that dreadful music in the videos, the world won't sound like it is on the brink of collapse every 5 seconds

MBZ is Machiavellian to the core. I do believe he's one of the greatest players in the world right now.
