Wagyu Beef Gyro

Gyros are Greek sandwiches (if you can even call them that) typically made from lamb, beef, or even chicken. Biting into a gyro is an experience like no other. The variety of textures, temperatures, and flavors is unmatched. But why hasn't anybody ever made a gyro using wagyu beef? My good friend @thegoldenbalance and I carefully considered this question and wholeheartedly agreed: we had to give it a try.

Now, you know me pretty well at this point. And this means you probably have a good understanding of my love for rotisserie chickens. The great part about gyros is that the meat is cooked on a vertical rotisserie, so this provided the perfect opportunity for me to get one of those machines. And that's exactly what we did.

Gyro:
Wagyu beef strips
Paprika
Oregano
Chili powder
Thyme
Cumin
Celery salt
Minced onion
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Bread:
2 2/3 cups bread flour
1 tsp salt
10 oz lukewarm water
1.5 packets active dry yeast
2 tbsp olive oil

Tzatziki:
1 medium cucumber (peeled)
2 cups Greek yogurt
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 clove minced garlic
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp fresh dill
Salt and pepper
Lemon zest

Toppings:
Fries
White onion
Tomato (salted)
Dill

  • Amazing job guys.. Just to let you know in the tzatziki in Greece we never peel the skin of the cucumber.And also the most importan ingredient of the tzaztziki is garlic. You add as much as you like. But a tzatziki without garlic it is not a tzatziki. And another small tip about the tzatziki is that we use vinegar instead of lemon. And last but not least, add olive oil in your tzatziki. It neutralizes the the strong flavour of the yogurt. Cheers guys !!

  • Nice one, as always. Just my opinion on this cuz ive made plenty gyros at home: add a little bit of cinnamon to the spice mix, i feel like cinnamon goes over peoples heads when it comes to meat but there so many recipes where you can use it. Also id recommend trying beef/lamb mix for gyro, its delicious
