If the church were even more inside the temple you might be able to punch the cleric down the temple and avoid having to pillar up.

Is looting the chests faster than using pressure plate strats? With how long tnt takes to ignite and how long it takes to mine sandstone without a pick axe I think it might be.

Maybe you can step on the pressure plate while mining the center then destroy the others 7 tnt to get the items faster

find a seed with a 10+ obisidian and iron blacksmith, fortress, and pearls in a stronghold chest. that might slightly improve this.
