Justin, you forgot to mention the weight as main feature! This is the lightest mid layer with insulation at only 4oz in Large. Only lighter alternative for aerobic activity is the Montbell plasma Down Vest at 3.3oz. A basic sun hoody weighs closer to 5oz! This is UL dream and can always go into a pack. I’m 6’2” 205 and wear Large Basically MH is trying to emulate alphadirect (material developed for army). Norrona has some alpha tops but they are heavier and more pricey

I NEVER put any technical clothing in the dryer. Always hang dry mine. Last forever.

Love my Airmesh hoody! Its also great to wear it over a thermal at night to sleep. Tip: these do go on sale from time to time, so unless you need it now it’s worth waiting for the price to go down.

I wear this when I am snowshoeing. When I get too warm I open my jacket. The sweat wicks out and I stay dry and warm. It is so lightweight I didn't expect the amount of warmth that the shirt provides. I was so impressed I purchased 2 more and told my backpacking friends about it.
  • I've got one of these. I'm a believer! There is nothing as warm for the weight. I thin base layer, this MH fleece and a windshell takes me down to pretty low temps and weighs next to nothing!

Sounds like a nice piece of clothes to have , much better than the one on your last review ;) only time will tell if its durable, if the dryer stops eating the fibers 😋 Thanks for the review

I was looking at Farpointe Outdoor Gear to pickup an Alpha shirt and got their Octa Crusizer (Tenjin Okta) for the, less see through properties, thinking it was Alpha direct. I was looking to find out what Octa was and found this great video as an introduction. Thanks!
  • Has anyone tried these in warmer weather? I’m in the UK so our warm summer temps probably don’t get above 25 degrees Celsius, would this be ok in this sort of temperature? Thanks

Great review! I saw MH launched it didn’t thought it would be this versatile. I saw comment regarding alpha direct but have you had experience with patagonia r1 air? Guess big companies are making active fleece type but don’t see any vs review. Thanks

I tried one of these on at an REI and taking of off literally felt like I was in one of those Chinese finger jigsaws and I was stuck

Nice review. I air dry all my good clothes. They last much longer.
  • @Andy-Mesa
The hoodie is 29% off at REI right now ($60) so that's worth trying out. Thanks.

Regarding sizing, didn’t really understand. Do you have it in Medium and you feel it’s a little bit to big?
  • @mmeljac
I have been hearing about this shirt and using it to help manage trapping heat and wicking perspiration. But I guess I keep missing the texture of the material..? Is the material soft on both the inside and outside?
  • @M4ttj0nes
Do you prefer air mesh or alpha fleece? I’ve been testing both and they are neck to neck. Pretty close overall.

Great review. What about odor resistance? This one of the main considerations with clothing for backpacking.
