  • "You can't possibly be the world's best striker unless you're also the world's biggest egoistic" sends shivers down my spine

He is a genius. A complete genius. He realised that, if your mentality is helping your teammates, and not being the best you can be, the best among your pears, then every team with that mentality will fail. He doesn't reject teamwork, because the best players know when and how to work as team. Cantona passed the ball, so did Pelé, and Noa passes it too. The ego he talks about is trying to be the best, and to be the best you have to take all the right decisions, and in doing so, if every player on a team thinks like that, then that will be the best team. Because if you play for others, trying to make THEM the best, you will never reach your full potential, but if you play to make yourself the best, you may reach even higher than that!

Ego's speech is the best and most relatable speech for the anime community so far. I mean, if you look at it from different windows and aspects, it means a lot actually.

"You're either the best there is, or you're trash. Got it?" thats a quote to live your life by
  • It’s sometimes scary to me how much Japan hates losing. At anything.
  • Something like blue lock being produced in Japan is so interesting. I don’t want to oversimplify, but it is generally accepted that Japan is a country that heavily focuses on teamwork, group values, communal harmony over individualism. Yet, blue lock is here literally turning it on its head and saying “this is terrible” and promoting extreme individualism and personal achievement literally “egoism”. I’ve never seen a manga or sports manga made in Japan that literally fights against all cultural values of the country it was produced in. Very interesting
  • this speech can apply to other things besides soccer and THAT is fucking nuts

The voice acting though, goddamn it has so much emotion it's fantastic.

An argument against Ego thesis is that the biggest egoist is the cause of the best players. Instead if a player is skilled they’ll develop a big ego.
  • @Emoechaiti
The voice actor did an amazing job here.

Blue lock is basically squid game but soccer instead of minigames
  • @kAY-yl5en
This is true. One must always have self interest in mind. Always looking out for your team would just create blockages for the team itself. To remain balanced between an individual and a team player is what creates a great team

As a former striker myself, I could agree that I'm missing my Ego and always thought that my teammates makes me better
