I like that Nicole was like "I'm going to white guilt you guys so hard" but then Josh ended up guilting her with his poor kid lunch lol
  • Shout out to all the kids (and their parents) who used to bring in extra food for their friends who never had packed lunches from home <3
  • "not all childhoods are happy, and that's fine, we overcome" - josh. Thank you for this.
  • @leviathan4330
"I don't get it anymore because it tastes like trauma." Josh why do you have to be relatable in the worst way 😭😭😭
  • @ehawk6838
The fact that Nicole was in it to white guilt Trevor and Josh and subsequently getting really upset once Josh told his story is my most wholesome YouTube moment of March 2023.
  • @EsotericTrash
Nicole: I'm gonna white guilt you so hard Also Nicole: cries over Josh's lunch
  • This episode was so important. Shout out to Josh, even if he did not want to do it because of discomfort, talking about childhood trauma, it really magnifies hope that there’s a chance for kids like us to do something big. Shout out to Trevor for elegantly moving the conversation along and shout out to Nicole for being a comforting friend!

Now I know why I love the Mythical Kitchen crew so much. Nicole: what I dreamed of being as a child Josh: what I was as a child Trevor: what I am as an adult
  • @auntiegubsy
Josh talking about overcoming sad childhoods makes me happy because it's proof that people like me can still succeed. Thank you Josh. We love you
  • I relate hard to Josh trying to tell the "good stories" and people still being sad.

The legitimate heartache you could see on Nicole’s face. Like I’m sure she’s heard stories about Josh’s childhood but to see it as a physical manifestation in what he had to take to school and eat really hurt her heart. Also, Trevor knew the pack size/cost of the sandwich meat AND that the barrel juice tasted like soap; so he too understood a little about abject poverty.

When Nicole said “sometimes my mom packed some extra lunch for kids that didn’t have some”. One feels so proud to be the kid that has food to share but at some point you start realizing, how lucky you are that you have lunch TO SHARE!!! Like my mom always insisted on having breakfast before leaving the house, she grew up not having enough food to go around after her mom died. It was her and her 5 sisters, an alcoholic father, and neglectful adults all around. So she always made us breakfast in case we forgot our lunch. I remember not being hungry enough to eat my lunch and passing it around because my mom taught me to never throw food away but never bring food back home. So I would just give it to someone else. And at some point it was the same person that asked me “what did mom pack for us today?” As a joke, but it wasn’t a joke and they ate my packed lunch everyday for the whole school year, because turns out their mom was sick, their dad left them at school super early and they didn’t have time for breakfast. Ever since I was a kid I always have food in my bag. Either a granola bar or a oat cookie for emergencies. Most of my friends make fun of the amount of food I buy, but won’t finish. But they always take it. I have candies near and have never denied food to anybody. You will be surprised at the amount of people in your life that don’t eat breakfast and have some kind of food until like 3pm. No one, much less a child should ever feel hungry.

As someone who had their fair share of childhood trauma, I hope Josh knows how proud we are of him. He inspires lots of us and brings so much joy to the world. Hope he got lots of hugs that day they filmed this and today too.
  • Nicole is such a sweet, loving person. Trevor reacting to Nicole being sad for Josh, and both almost crying.
  • @AmandaArnold
I am honestly so proud of Josh. As a fellow person who experienced a lot of childhood neglect and parentification, it’s so good to see how well he is doing. I’m older than Josh but it reminds me to keep growing and healing.
  • @ephemeralfox
I adore Trevor when he's not being forced into the "Gen Z stereotype" character. He's genuinely funny and seemingly so kind. This series is great!
  • @sarahs.7211
Not that I really needed to be told that packing my girl's lunch is important, but thanks for reinforcing it. Josh, you always deserved a healthy upbringing. Thanks for not giving up.
  • @elle0unit
Forever supporting Josh talking about being a poor kid, and other family hardships and issues. It helps other people feel less alone and more validated. Every childhood is different!
  • @joshy9124
i feel that Josh’s childhood lunches is a big reason why he is a good chef now
  • @dctaken
Shout out to all the single moms that did their best to support a family. And a hug to schools that provided food for kids who can't afford it. Love you, mom! And for feeding me, NYC Schools!
