Stranded in Paradise - Musket Cove

They say every cloud has a silver lining, in our case after our gearbox broke and we were scammed by the company we ordered the replacement part from, our silver lining was that it left us stranded in a local cruising paradise surrounded by turquoise water and coral reef. So after a hot sweaty couple of years on the hard stand in Fiji transforming our Open 60 into a fast family cruiser, we finally got a bit of down time (in-between dodging cyclones, dis-installing and re-installing our propeller and engine, installing an outboard mount, fixing our water maker, resewing a new boom cover zip, cleaning the dinghy bottom, fixing our salt water pump and our anchor winch circuit breaker).

Thanks a lot to everyone that got in touch to try to help with our gearbox issue but the biggest thank yous go to Oliver for getting us a refund from the company that never sent us the part and to Doug & Amy who organised for another replacement part to be sent to us.

Musket Cove is the ideal cruising destination, with everything you need.
Firstly, it’s one of the biggest, most protected anchorages in the mamanuca and yasawa island groups - which are those on the western side of Fiji closest to Fiji’s International airport Nadi, and as such as the ones most often explored by cruisers especially when visited by family and friends that are flying in from abroad

There's a yacht club office, a fuel dock, fresh water to fill your tanks, somewhere to leave the rubbish, there's a laundry with washers and dryers, toilets and showers and even an ATM!

It's also a popular spot for sports such as surfing, kite surfing and wing foiling! There’s always plenty to do here, where it’s snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking, racing the hobby cats or playing volley ball. You can also learn to make traditional Fijian meals and to basket weave! Not to mention the world famous surf spots such as Cloud break and restaurants right on this islands door step…

Welcome to Musket Cove Island Resort, a secluded uncrowded island hideaway, that really captures the essence of Fiji.

The resort hosts garden and beachfront burees scattered amongst palm trees and lush gardens,, Island and garden villas, raintree rooms and overwater lagoon burees located along a picturesque inland canal

The general store here is awesome, with lovely staff, always so pleased to see you! It’s always filled with a great selection, reducing the need to go back to the mainland to restock.

The island is serviced by a ferry which runs to and from the mainland 4 times a day. In fact there is even a shuttle from Fiji’s International airport Nadi taking you directly to the ferry terminal in Denarau, making the transit super convenient when coming from abroad.

There’s the Trader Cafe for casual dining and Dick’s Place for refreshments by the pool and for enjoying spectacular meals. Then there’s the iconic island bar, connected by a floating walkway, famous amongst the Pacific for hotel guests and yachts alike to gather for sundowners or to grill on the BBQs… all with a backdrop of Fiji’s stunning sunsets...here you find a truly Fiji barefoot island experience

Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts. We're refitting an ex Vendée Globe Open 60 race boat originally designed & built & raced by famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa. He competed in her in the 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), finishing 5th, becoming the first non-frenchman to finish.

We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!

Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!

You can find out more about the boat and us on our website www.sailingnv.com or follow us on

I'm happy to hear that you got a refund on the part that was never shipped. Sorry you are having trouble getting the new(used) part to fit. I loved the way you switched between the acapella island singing when on shore and Hava Nagila when dancing with the engine.

Thanks for the great atmosphere that you share with this video. Love this Mac Gyver of the seas series..😊
  • I was thinking in the beginning of the video that you must have checked the plate to make sure it would fit on the spline and marked both faces as to the position of the key to help aligning them. I truly hate that you're basically stranded for now but also I love that where you've been stranded is such a magically wonderful place. It brings me joy to see you are getting on well even if it is very frustrating installing the new plate. It's also very good to hear that you were able to get your money back and that many who watch your channel came to your aide when it was needed. It gives me hope there are still good people in this very messed up world we live in. I think of you all often and your young family and wish you nothing but the best. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...
  • Such a beautiful place you are in Guys. Wish I was there with you all. I do hope you get the engine drive sorted out though. So envious of you lovely folk .The nanny has arrived \0/ yay. Until the next episode of Sailing NV. Ciao

Love the video. Just a friendly reminder its pronounced Mamanutha not Mamanuca. I know its written with the ca at the end but in Fijian c's are pronounced as th
