Disassembled, cleaned and reassembled our LG Portable A/C Unit, Model # LP1111WXR 11,000 BTU unit. We've had the unit about 7 years and never had it opened or cleaned.

Clearly, it needed cleaning.

Just to be clear. I'm not complaining about this AC Unit at ALL! This has been a fantastic unit and has provided us with years of cool air. It's running right this second and we love it!

I got the exact same surprise after first complete opening after 5 years !!! i got a Delonghi PAC N81. I clean all the thick "fur" and the rest of the lower part, reasamble the case and for some reason it leaks water all over the floor. i checked all again , cant find a mistake by myself and after 5 min of operating this unit, it dripping water under it like the niagara falls ! i ended up buying a new AC.

after all the vacuum and brushing use a no rinse coil cleaner especially for those hard to reach area

I have a portable ac where I can clean 75 percent of the fins easily. The last 25 percent were covered by a grate which does not come off. So I am using cotton swabs to clean up those. Not the ideal, but it is better than shelling out 300 bucks for a new one. Mine is six years old and still works well.

You can also spray the.coils with a cleaner then hose it out with a garden hose, tilt it slightly so all water can drain out before you put her back together. I would have thought you would have.know you had to keep the.coils clean on those

Hey sirduncan,,,,I am very thankful I found this site. I have the same LG model as is on this video. I am having a problem with excess water drainage. According to manual when using cool or fan mode there's no need of water drainage,,,oh I beg to differ. I have mine set to cool and the flood alarm goes off about every 1 to 2 hours what a pain. lol I have been scouring the internet for answers but other then this site (which is great ) I have not found any info on this particular problem. I also have had it for 5 or 6 years and before you ask no I haven't cleaned it yet. Frankly, I did not realize that I could and that the filter in the back was removeable. If you can think of anything that might help I will be checking back in a couple of days. Thank you very much ( yeah Canadian,,,lol ) Please stay safe and healthy during this trying time.

I hate the manufacturers of AC’s. They don’t mention to do a cleaning of the fins inside the unit. Over the years they get a thick carpet of dust as in your video and is not cooling like it should. Every 3-4 years all the screws should be removed from the back and do a proper cleaning of the filthy fins, dirt, leaves, etc...and the AC can last for many years baring any Freon leaks. I bought a used portable 9000 btu on Craigslist for $25 as the seller said it doesn’t cool anymore. I opened it up and to my amazement their was half inch carpet on the fins and was easily shop-vacd with the brush attachment. You can use a spray bottle with 3 tablespoons of dish soap mixed with 4 cups water and spray whatever the vacuum didn’t get, let it soak for 1 hour and wash off with garden hose. Just don’t spray near compressor or controls. Let it soak for 1 day and put everything back together. BTW, the AC works like it should and blows cold air like you just bought it. A $350 portable AC for $25

Did the aircon come with a filter and did you use it?
  • @ianmilleris
Use a trigger sprayer with clear water and a tiny drop of washing up liquid to squirt downwards from the top of the fins.

I'm not gay but I have a new man-crush. I found this video while looking for a reason why my LP1111WXR was short-cycling and not cooling to temperature. I'd already opened it up and it looked identical yo yours. I didn't even recognize the intake side of the vents and assumed it was sheet metal until I saw this video. I went with a long clothes dryer lint trap cleaner brush to get into the tight spots and a wire brush(gently) and air compressor and now it's working like a champ. Thank you!.

I have one of these. Mine started making loud noises and then stopped cooling. I took cover off and cleaned condenser and evaporator but it doesn't cool like it did before. Does this mean the compressor is damaged?
