VLOG - Why I Left Aiken + MORE! Over 50

My motto has always been "Do what makes your soul happy". I'm happy for you Kimberly. 💕

You remind me of many who still enjoy the outdoors and being active but feel many "senior" living places are dull. My mom found hers very boring. I think if your health is good, it helps you mentally and physically to be around active seniors and different types of people. Personally Florida isn't for me but I'm glad you found a fit for now. Not owning gives you that flexibility.

I enjoyed hearing the story of all the places you’ve lived. I wish you could have shared photos of each of the places you lived as you told the story. It sounds so exciting to do all that traveling.

It was fun to hear about how much you’ve moved around 💕 we get really trapped by fears of the unknown or the “what if it’s doesn’t work outs”. I’m 48 and feeling very trapped (caring for my 86 y/o mom w/ Alzheimer’s), and this video has inspired me to get healthy so that when this season of life is over, my husband and I will be healthy and thriving to enjoy our years and adventures with health. Also, you have great brows (even before the pencil) 💕

You are so fun and inspiring to anyone who feels 'stuck' because of age or being single. You are a great example of living life to the fullest and I am amazed by all the places you lived and can list! I would have to have that all written down lol

This was just lovely. I’m 54 and I kinda want to be your best friend and live In Your town! You are just such a sweet, kind, fun, positive energy. I can see a day with you would be a fun adventure with great conversations. I love that you travel and have this adventurous spirit. I struggle to find women my age who want to do things like hiking and kayaking and cycling. I’m not finished listening yet but just had to tell you how much I enjoyed listening and your energy! Ok now I’m done watching and I have to add….I’m also a personal trainer and have been since 1999. The trainer did a great job of explaining all of that. There’s just one thing I wish he’d mentioned. There’s this persistent idea or phrase people often have that muscle can turn into fat or muscle weighs more than fat. So often I read this. Someone saying “muscle weighs more than fat”. It doesn’t. That’s not possible. A pound is a pound is a pound. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same. What people are actually referring to is that fat takes up more space, it has more volume, than muscle. So when you have gained 10 pounds of fat, because of the volume, our size increases. When you gain 10 pounds of muscle, you weigh more but the volume is less so you don’t increase physical size as much. This explains why you can gain weight but loose size. This myth has kept women from lifting weights because we’ve been programmed that our overall size is more important than what makes up that size. But the real truth is, we MUST lift heavy things over and over to maintain vitality and health. Lifting weights is the most important part of exercise especially for women and especially as we age. As a trainer I’ve seen first hand the difference between an 80 yr old who has exercised and lifted weights vs one who hasn’t. It’s astounding. Like mind blowing. The good news is it’s true that it’s never too late. If you are over 50 or 60 and want some inspo look up Train with Joan on Instagram. She’s over 70 and started her fitness journey then. It’s a perfect example of what is possible even as a senior. Like I’m jealous of her butt and shoulders! So anyone reading this, take this as your sign to lift weights. Your future self will be so grateful you did!

I'm so glad you are enjoying Florida. I was a Northeast girl my whole life! In 2019, I just was burnt out from my job and the whole NYC vibe. I sorta see NYC as a younger person's city (in fact one of my sons lives there) and while I loved it there, I was ready for a change. If you had asked me 15 years ago if I would ever live in Florida my answer would have been HECK NO! (or something like that 😁) But after several trips to the west coast of Florida I found that I really liked it. So, I took a big leap of faith and moved to Florida. It's not for everybody but I love it here. There is so much to do if you like the outdoors and water. Is it a little like the wild west? Yeah, but I'm ok with that. It's been hot as heck here recently but I'm OK with that too. I survived Hurricane Ian which was scary but now that I've seen and survived a near CAT 5 hurricane, I'm kinda ok with that too. It's part of living here, you just have to be prepared. In short, I have never regretted the move and unless something untoward happens, I'm a Floridian til the end. However long you stay in Florida I hope you have as wonderful a time as I have.

I'm not sure we could be more different...I love roots, snow, and being indoors (cooking, reading, decorating, etc). That said, I love watching you live your life and always appreciate your openness. I'm not sure I'll ever be outdoorsy, but who knows, maybe when my kids fly the coop things will change.

At the flea market I saw the table of lady heads - my Grandmother got me started collecting them. Every time I look at them it reminds me of her.

My goodness what an interesting life you have had. I cannot imagine moving to so many places and being able to thrive like you have. I am too much of a home body and moving at my age would be such a stressful event. Although I have to admit that I would love to visit other areas like California and Colorado and Vermont etc...but my health is not as good as yours and traveling is probably not in the cards right now. Enjoy your time in Florida no matter how long that will be....you are doing what really makes you happy. That is what is important now ....have a wonderful week ahead !!
