Was Side Order Worth the Wait?

FIRST! Thoughts on Flow?

I loved the gameplay loop, but i can definitely agree there's a lack in room variety that hurts replay value. While I love the style of the environments, the fact they're all minimalist and white makes the floors feel same-y and also hurts the replayability. Thinking of roguelikes like Binding of Isaac or the Risk of Rain games, the drastic visual differences in level themes really help keep interest

I mean Side Order was even better than I expected it to be, and I already had pretty high expectations for it. It's became one of my favorite rougelites ever.

The story was basically Octo Expansion without the sauce.

Very good video, I personally have approximativly the same opinion about Side Order. I usually describe the experience it gave me by saying that, when I finished, the only thing it made me want to do is turn on Splatoon 2 and replay Octo Expansion. It makes me kind of sad that I'm more nostalgic about the DLC that came out 6 years ago than I'm hyped by the DLC that just came out. Tho, even if I don't like that much the gameplay and the plot... Let's not talk about the plot ; I do wanna finish it 100%, just because of my splatoon fan pride.

its good, and as someone who wasnt that hyped for it, i would say it lived up to the hype. its a cool side mode that adds some more to the game as a dlc should, but i really think that nintendo and the splatoon community at large were expecting some magnum opus because of how good oe was and people were really saying this would beat it. once the hype dies down in a couple months i can see people saying this wasnt as good as people are saying rn.

Opinion from someone who hasn’t finished the video, but did finish all the content of Side order: It would have been nice if they had added some other modes, there is a point that the lack of variety hits, and I’m just playing some parts on auto pilot. I liked the option of making the runs a bit more challenging to get more prlz, but when you buy everything you want it’s like “now what?” I don’t feel like a have an incentive to keep playing… except to say hi to Smollusk I liked the dlc, it was a nice step into the genre, but I hope that if they make something lil it again, they put a bit more variety.

I love splatoon, but haven't played any of the switch games (I'm running on splat 1 nostalgia), but it feels like for the final boss of side order, a rmix of fly octo fly/ebb & flow like the calamari inkantation with the story modes would make that final boss more compelling. It would be nice if the roguelike elements could get small updates and further expansions for replayability...

Imo extremely subjective, it's like their first time trying out something completely new and while i don't think they knocked it out of the park i still believe they did pretty well. I typically like rougelike games so ofc i would love it though i can understand your complaints, especially in variety. Also going off on a tangent, I kinda really liked the music, a lot of people might not like it bc its like the almost exact opposite of the silly squid music we typically get but weirdly enough the silly squid songs we did get were my least favorites. Overall though I find side order to be a really niche but fun dlc for me.

Yo I haven’t played the Dlc yet, but I was a little bit iffy on whether or not to play it lmao, but still great video!!!

I don't think I ever played a rogue like before so this is my first ever game that has that genre and I gotta say that it's really good. I was so mad that I had to complete the boss I just did when I died😭

I was expecting Side Order to be amazing, but by the time I finished the dlc; I thought it was mediocre. As of now I got all the weapons, and I am trying to get all the color chips and items in the shop. I'm not really having any fun with it; I would much rather play Return of the Mammalians over Side Order. The one thing I like about SO is the Pearlie robot.

Side Order has good stuff, the music and atmosphere is great, the gameplay is fun but the story fell realy realy short

I wasn’t hyped when I saw side order trailers but playing it was kinda fun, it was my first rouge like game and it was okay but I did wish marina was the final boss it would’ve been better instead of a whole other DJ Octavio boss, but side order was mid. Flow is fine she be chilling.
