STORYLINE:
People in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv welcomed on Sunday the news that the U.S. House of Representatives had passed a crucial aid deal for Ukraine.

"I heard our president officially say that we can lose the war without this help, thanks very much," said local resident Kateryna Ruda.

The House swiftly approved $95 billion in foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. allies in a rare Saturday session as Democrats and Republicans banded together after months of hard-right resistance over renewed American support for repelling Russia’s invasion.

Tatyana Ryavchenuk's husband is fighting on the frontline.

She came with her two-year-old daughter Nika to the memorial of fallen Ukrainian soldiers to commemorate her brother who was killed in the war.

"The boys (soldiers) need help because they have nothing to protect us. They need weapons, they need gear, they need it,” said Ryavchenuk.

Kharkiv resident Yulia Mischenko came to Kyiv with her family when her house was damaged after the last Russian attack on Kharkiv.

"We would be very happy if they closed the sky and helped us more and more for our country. We really need this now," she said.

The whole aid package will go to the U.S. Senate, which could pass it as soon as Tuesday.

US President Joe Biden has promised to sign it immediately.

  • 1:33 Heartbreaking. This little boy and his daddy smiling at a photo on a wall. But he will never be with him again. The father died in defense of all he held dear, against russia's brutal and genocidal war of extermination. Any decent civilised person must see that it's the right thing to do to give Ukraine all they need to liberate all their nation, force russia out and end the war the sooner the better. 💙💛Stand firmly, Ukraine, we are many who stand with you all the way, and beyond. We're with yo
  • It won't make any difference at all. They are just prolonging the agony. Zelensky belongs in a dungeon somewhere for what he has done to his country.
