Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with President Joe Biden on Friday about strengthening sanctions against Russia and other steps to retaliate for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Strengthening sanctions, concrete defense assistance and an anti-war coalition have just been discussed with @POTUS,” Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter, thanking the U.S. for its strong support” of Ukraine.

The White House confirmed that Biden spoke with Zelenskyy for 40 minutes but provided no other details.

The United States and Europe have already hit Russia with sanctions that will impact multiple sectors of the Russia economy. Ukraine has argued that a tougher economic response is needed and has asked for additional defense assistance.

This gives me chills. What backbone he is showing. He could’ve easily fled and the world would not have judged him for it.

This video is stunning!!! Zelensky's simple message, "We are here" while standing outside in ambient lighting, literally shoulder-to-shoulder with his top officials, with unwavering gazes, was very inspiring and frankly bad-ass! So contrary to other politicians who, even if they stayed in-country, would never make such a video without posh surroundings, new suits, and the best lighting, all while sounding hollow and dull. Stay strong, brave, and faithful, Ukraine. We need heroes like you now more than ever. God bless.

"Imagine a king who fights his own battles. Wouldn't that be a sight?" He may not be a king, but he's a leader like we have not seen in a long time.
  • I’m an American but this makes me feel patriotic for Ukraine. Massive respect
  • @PrematureMalone
I wonder how many world leaders would stand up as President Zelensky is. Truly, he is what a leader should be in these times.

I keep coming back to watch this video to remind me of the incredible bravery of these men, it’s easy to forget at the time the situation seemed so bad yet they stood their ground and rallied their countrymen with their example, truly inspirational

"I need ammunition, not a ride." Guarantee that's a quote that will go down in the history books. Prayers to the Ukraine, the people, the President, and his family.

He has my respect, no matter what the outcome is, he will go down in history as a man of integrity who stood his ground and didn’t abandon his country. He’s a hero.
  • It's inspiring - remembering who they are and the office they hold. Survival and perseverance are victories in themselves. Australia's with you, Ukraine!

This brings tears to my eyes... so sad you have to face such a brutal aggressor, but the world (except the few) are behind you, Ukraine.

This was the moment that united the world around Ukraine. The single most important broadcast of the decade.

Heartbreaking that so many people have to risk death and regrettably die for this unnecessary display of power. Prayers for Zelensky and all the people of Ukraine.

His speech makes me crying with tears! God bless President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine!

As a Brit this reminds me of Winston Churchill's "we'll fight on the beaches" speech when my country was in a similar situation in 1940 outnumbered, outgunned but never giving up the fight for survival. I wish we could have someone like Zelensky now.

Non-Ukrainians might not get the full effect of this message. Yes, it's Zelenskyy showing that he's not going to abandon his country, but it's also said in an incredibly soothing, parental way. Almost like, "I know you're hurt, but you'll get through it with me by your side the entire time."
  • What a brave group of men💪 Stay strong we are praying for everyone in Ukraine!!!!🙏🙏
  • @kdeal2476
I would be proud to have him as president!
  • @bachogap9095
What an example how a simple man like him can deserve so much love to be elected as a President, what a President!
  • @SKarea51
Most inspiring speach I heard in my life and I am pushing 50!
