  • lol so your “lazy trick” is really just don’t be lazy and lube your air tools like you’re supposed to.
  • Yo the ratchet usually never fails. Now the air motor or cam mechanism no that can go bad. You need to put an unholy amount of air tool oil into the tools air inlet so it really saturates the insides of the air motor. It's not spinning because the air motor is dry as fuck and dirty so it locked up.

Take it apart and clean it. Make sure it's lubed well after reassembly. All you really need is air tool oil through the air fitting.
  • Had a very solid lesson on Teflon tape from old heads in the trade. I was 18 and training as a machinist it will stick in your head. For RH threads. 1.Part in your left hand. 2.Tape in your right. 3.tape tail headed clockwise 4. ALWAYS wrap away from you

I usually just squirt some pb blaster down the air intake and on anything else that moves and kinda beat on it a little bit. Usually works lol

I was waiting for it to break free and send that adjustable to the moon

People wouldn't have been much more work to take it apart and see whats going on and lube it all back up and it would almost certainly work better

I’m actually refurbishing an old IR 1/2” impact an old man gave me. Things a beast. But recently when I plug it up to air, it spins nonstop and uncontrollably. After a bunch of research and stripping it down to pieces, I found out the valve seat in the air shaft blew out! Never knew it possible. I can’t wait for the tune up kit to come in the mail.

Oil will help old dirty seals "work" for a limited time. Eventually, it will stop working again. It needs to be broke down and cleaned before the grit eats it down to the rebuild point.

If you oil your air tools on the regular like you are supposed to this never happens.
  • I didn't realize that fixing an air ratchet would be such a controversial video 😂
  • I worked on pneumatic tools for a decade +. Air Ratchets will go bad and can be repaired with an anvil replacement kit. Which usually costs half the cost of a new one.
  • @Megellin
Start with the air tool oil, because that is usually caused by idiots running them dry and letting them sit for long periods of time
  • Oh so putting air tool oil in your air tool helps the air tool. Who would have thought
  • @Joseph-eg4ff
Automatic Transmission fluid works well to clean and lubricate air tools. It also keeps the seals from drying out
  • Uh, just take it apart. Duh... Clean the mica vanes, oil, and check for wear. Order new vanes, if excessive wear. Dirt, hangs the vanes up. Dirt and oil, can stop a vane motor.

I start with wd40. That usually frees them up.Run them for a while and then I pour air tool oil in them. And then they're good. Those fins inside gets sticky and they get stuck

Tell em about the grease point on the directional switch on the back
  • @ottopartz1
Put the oil in, hold it upside down, squeeze the trigger while hitting it with a mallet or piece of wood. It will usually free up a tool thats dried out and crusty. If that doesn't work crack it open and mark the position of the pin before pulling the motor out. Makes putting IR tools back together so much easier.
