Voices From The Past!

Finding a lost recording has me thinking about an area of history that is relatively young…the recorded human voice. It worth preserving when you find it!

I found myself tapping my foot to the first song. How wonderful to hear your granddads voice. I totally agree with you on the significance of recorded voices from the past and realizing the importance of spending time with those we love. I lost my dad the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I also didn’t take enough time to smell the roses and spend the quality time I wish I had done. Life seems to be too busy and there’s never enough time in the day to accomplish all that needs our attention leaving us with the wish I had done this and that before it was too late. Progression and modern technology is great but I sometimes wonder if the simple ways of life were not better. Quality time is never wasted. Take care my friend.

This was a very powerful video Ben. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your Dad, but to have a video of him just to hear his voice is priceless. My Dad died in 1972 just one year before I graduated and I struggle every day to remember his voice!
  • Those two recordings now with a recording of you are absolutely priceless. Three generations in one video that your kids, grandchildren and future generations will be able to hear and continue to add to. Thanks for sharing, take care and God Bless.

Cool find. My father played guitar and sang with a country twang. He went to a song booth and came away with one that was oranges red in color and about the size of a 78 which was just a tad smaller than an lp. I couldn't get it to play on my stereo so I'm not sure if it was a blank or needed a different player. Lol. But I was so upset that when I traded my cellphone in for a new one, I lost the last recordings of my mom's messages she left when I'd miss her calls. I was so upset. I miss her so much. July 2017 was the last time I heard her voice. You look like your grandpa.

Cool video. I've got a cassette tape of my grandmother I recorded back in the mid 1970's. She was singing songs that they used to sing during WW1. Thanks for sharing!

Very cool pieces of your family history. Thanks for sharing.
  • My Grandfather also died before I was born. He was in the military during WW2 and died in the 1950s. Having never met him, I can see how cool it would be to have some recordings of him. Just to get an idea of his personality. Its awesome how you got those precious recordings of your Dad. Makes me wish I had thought to do something like that before my Dad passed away in 2016. Great video man.
  • How cool is this!!! I am addicted to a Channel called (Nineteenth century videos back to life)! So cool to see vids colorized and original from the late 1800s! Congrats on your heirlooms family history is so important!!!
  • What a cracking day u had and its the weekend so hope you have a relly nice time and hope to see you at the next your brother tezza 👍
  • That's really cool Ben. It's great to have things like that. I'm lucky to have gotten a lot of time with mine but I still wish I had more pictures or video, and that I had asked them more questions. My paternal grandfather hated having his picture taken though. That must be where I get it from. lol.

They went and laid a track down, in a booth like many still do today!

I recorded my dad telling old stories before his death. They were low in volume and had AC in background. Thankfully, I found a free program, Audacity, that allowed me to filter out the AC noise and increase the volume. You might get good results trying that.
