Really cool Ben! Some of the locations of those cemeteries are crazy. Every time I find one out in the woods, I’m like why is this in the middle of nowhere, but then I take a look around at the views and the peacefulness of the area and I’m like, oh that’s why lol. Nice work on the research of the family and thanks for making sure they aren’t forgotten. Nice nutting stone as well. Thanks for sharing and for taking us along! Take care Ben….

It's always fun to go with you on your " history nerd" adventures. Love it that the ancestors presented you with a gift my friend.

Isaac Mauney has entries in findagrave and familysearch with his picture. One son, Louis, was killed in the Civil War. Great video!
  • This is a very interesting story and great history of researching the names. I was born in Cherokee County and lived in Andrews. My family line were the Gentry and Stephens families from Murphy and possibly Copper Hill TN. You probably are familiar with the cemetery in Hanging Dog where three men named Gentry were killed during the Civil war are buried in the same grave. They were not supportive of the southern cause of slavery and were killed by local militia who were referred to as bushwhackers by my ancestors. I remember Mauney as a prominent name in Murphy. I believe there was a Mauney's Drugstore during my time in the 50s and 60s. Great job. I always enjoy your storytelling.
