Yeah yeah, I know that this can be done successfully in the F-14, I’m just poking fun at people trying this in the sim.

In all honesty though, it’s actually pretty hard to get the F-14 in a flat spin with the wings folded back - you REALLY have to go out of your way to get this to happen (you need opposite ailerons to induce aileron yaw).

Anything I had to say the comments said it for us 🤣 However, something tells me the creator of this didn't intend to "debunk" splitting throttle but rather to poke fun at what it's like for the rookies who try it☝️

"Splitting the throttles" Dies in flat spin 5th gen pilot : "What the.... fuck was that?"
  • Growling sidewinder proved that differential thrust does work in dogfights in the F14, it just can’t be too aggressive. And in real life only extremely seasoned F14 pilots actually attempted differential thrust, which maverick is
  • @Raguleader
Reality has fewer pixels than I expected.
  • "Mom, can I have thrust vectoring?" "We have thrust vectoring at home" The thrust vectoring at home:
  • It's definitely a maneuver that should only be tried by someone that has completely mastered the Tomcat
  • @rickyquinteros7100
I love how the Tomcat pretty much let’s you do whatever you need to do even if it destroys itself
  • @rustler08
Bro really said "Reality" and showed a video game.
  • Maveric: does that on stall speeds…. This guy: I’ll go as fast as I can and then die from flat spin
  • @blickster712
The way you split your throttles in order to throw off enemy targeting systems and nosedive to escape their eyesight was amazing. Then hiding yourself in the explosion from your crash? Fantastic.
  • @WarpRulez
I love how the real-life footage is "expectation" and the computer game footage is "reality".
  • @thenasiudk1337
I love how the comment section is full of people that have 6900+ hours of flying Tomcat and saying this guy have a serious skill issue
  • @osakanone
You only have to take it off burner. Differential thrust works really well if you're very careful with it and you have the altitude or skill to recover.
  • @thomaskok5773
After watching GS split throttles video, it is safe to say "It's Not The Plane, It's The Pilot."
  • "It's not the plane, it's the pilot" - conclusion for plane crash investigation report 😂😂😂
  • @S.T.R.Y.K.E.R.
"Expectation vs. Reality" shows a video game for reality
  • @404cp
I'd like to imagine that Maverick was able to do this because he spent a crap load of time in a simulator, if not in a real F-14 before they got retired, doing this exact maneuver. He mastered how to get an F-14 into a flat spin with a split throttle and then recovering from it because he was still traumatized by Goose's death from the flat spin in the first movie.
  • @Adalla
I love how DCS is "reality". :D What a great sim.
  • @tiz_remz3228
judges a movie. procedes to give an example out of a video game...

There were a few maneuvers like this that you could do in an F-18 that would break the fly by wire system, but they were super risky. I didn’t even know it was a thing until I saw I guy do it in an air show.
