Larry Bird is definitely one of my top Third NBA players of all time and I remember that game in 1986

Heck they even made a video game about this rivalry. Jordan vs. Bird for the NES. Excellent video!

And this after MJ missed 65 games in the regular season due to a broken foot. This was only his 19th game back from an injury that even his team doctors told him was too soon. MJ risked his entire future by returning too soon. MJ wanted his team to win and he did everything he could to do that. In the end, though, the Celtics were just too deep with talent for one man to overcome.

hands down Larry Bird is one of the greatest NBA players , but Michael Jordan proved a point that day even though they lost but Jordan was nothing to be doubted about

Great video. Love that you acknowledge Bird's passing, as a kid that was actually what was most impressive about him to me, before I even really understood basketball. Just like you said, those crazy fast adjustments in the air were just COOL. And then the part about the praise and love for the game that Bird heaped on MJ, despite being a famous sh*t-talker - that's magical. That's an incredible use of social capital - that's the best way to be a sh*t-talker, is to eventually pay it back with love. the kind of surprise turn and goodness you root for and rarely see.
  • This was the best representation of the Jordan we knew during that time. He literally broke the league. Brady was his only equivalent. Or maybe the new person to break the NFL, Patrick Mahomes. Unstoppable.

If you look at the stats in wins between the two.. Bird has the advantage even after the ankle debacle and even broken back(!) There is a reason why MJ always mentioned, Larry was a problem.

MJ should have got 3 foul shots in that 63 point game against Boston ! But the rule for a shooting foul from behind the 3 point line at that time was you only get 2 foul shots ! A rule changed happened later !

There was zero pressure on Michael in those early series. he didn't have the team to compete. The Bulls had zero chance to win. so he could go out there loose and do his thing.

I remember watching MJ in the '80's., not knowing he Would be the greatest there Ever was. He was amazing to watch. His ball handling was unbelievable.

The 86 playoffs wasn't MJ's first playoff appearance. In his rookie season, he led the Bulls to their first playoff appearance in years vs the Bucks.
  • CLASSIC HISTORY # two Hall of Famers Compete !! ⭐⭐💓💪💪💯🔥🔥🔥🔥

I remember that game like it was yesterday, changing of the guard moment that we'll never forget!

Bird and the Celtics were undefeated against the Bulls in J's early years in the league. Don't forget that Bird coached the Indiana Pacers in the 90's. He never beat the Bulls in the multiple playoff series they played so I guess this point is even.
