Riding Peru's Elusive Highway 3S (S3:E72)

Published 2024-07-21
After surviving a week without their Africa Twin, Chad & Rose depart Peru's cultural center of Cusco, and descend upon the heart of the Inca Empire - The Sacred Valley. After a whirlwind tour of the amazing Pisaq, Ollantaytambo, Moray and Chinchero, they start making their way north to Lima.

But before they can make it, an ambitious detour back into the mountains finds them out of road, and out of luck...

Great video, as ever. I'm just finishing my write up of our recent trip to SA and you always manage to show me how much we missed! PS. Tubes suck.
  • @dalehooper159
Really enjoy watching your videos. GOD BLESS both of you.
  • @-W8WHAT
    3S Road...what a ride in beautiful country!!
  • @FreddieL-l7c
Really enjoy your videos. Great scenery, riding, editing and storytelling. You've got it all!
  • @john-wq8kf
Once again you let me into your world, happy
  • Every video, you guys leave me stunned, in a good way, with the roads, scenery, history and so much more from the places on your travels.
  • @andrewewan624
OMG..another flat tyre!! Pity your AT did not have tubeless tyres.. But..when you see the beautiful scenery..what's a wee inconvenience? With all those cows on the road..the uneducated might have thought you had suddenly been transported to India 🇮🇳.. Lastly, Rosie would win Miss Scotland for her fabulous pronunciation of the rrrrrr. 😊 Stay safe..and thanks for taking us along with you

Holy moly, that 3s dusty side rode was littered with danger, dirt and death… some sections look so narrow, it’s a miracle the 18 wheelers are able to get through. Great scenery, beautiful day… would be bad ass if dedicated to small traffic.. indoor petrol pumps, crazy. Maybe next time, y’all should Tuk tuk an adventure 😆
  • Great clip, just unbelievable beauty. Too bad about tube hassle
  • What a road, I’m an explorer and I’d have to be stopping many times along the way, thought it was funny on one of the stretches you were on poor ole dog couldn’t find a tree so he hiked his leg up on the side of a dirt hill to relieve himself. Well what ever you throw our way on the next video I’ll be watching from a tent, pull out next week, hopefully we want have the flats like you guys dealt with, well guess your still hanging in Newsom land hopefully you’ll be back on two wheels later, one day take that bike and make your way up to Newfoundland, I’ll be going back there for sure, hang in there and take it easy. Rob down in Ala.
  • Tube tip Chad. Buy natural rubber tubes, thicker is better, but of course don't pack so great as spares. The natural rubber tubes are so much better than the butyl rubber standard thickness east Asia junk you are having to deal with (seam splits, etc). More flexible and durable, Motoz, Michelin, Bridgestone, etc. I'd consider sealing up your rims too (did that on my KTM), at least you could likely fix with a plug and then only need a spare tube if it goes really wrong. Enjoyed it as always.

Another excellent episode, as ever. I was travelling this year in January, unfortunately the rainy season got worse by El Niño. So I just didn't ride the roads and the area you are showing. Very inspiring and on the agenda for the next trip. You mentioned the aggressive driving in Peru. In fact, the first pass through Lima was the worst and most aggressive I experienced to far. I lived for four years in D.F. and travelled Mexico and Central America for some 46.000 km with my 690. And on this trip (Dec 2023/Jan 2024) around the southern part of South Ameriica some 21.500 km with my 890. But traffic in Lima was absolutely scary. I had the first time the feeling, some of the drives intentionally tried to hit me. Never had this experience in the Americas before. After making it almost through Lima I was pulled over by two traffic police on a moto. Accused of dangerous driving. I thought I have had sufficient experience how to deal with such situation. But these police men simply stripped me off my cash by grabbing in my purse and taking the money. Armed robbery by the police and no chance to prove it. Never had this in Mexico and anyhow no problems with the police in Chile, Argentina nor Brazil. You next episode will probably comment on Lima, I am really looking forward to see how you got through.
  • @hachewie
I’ve herd that riding with cows can be a very mooo-ving experience.
  • @eddie5484
This is the road that Itchy Boots <3 didn't get to ride cos of the covid 🙂
  • @Wheels2Dirt
Did you say "finger blasting wheelies"? 🤣
  • @Donny_Schmidt68
We have decided that Rose is much braver than you Chad 😉. The stuff you guys ride two-up is amazing. Especially those insane shelf roads.
  • @eddie5484
Tyre's flat, but also put on backwards 😕
  • @lessmore444
‘Highways’ dotted with headstones & alcohol free towns, definitely not in Kansas anymore…
  • @rlpatton1970
Just curious what the mileage on AT these days ?
