3 Day Southern Flinders Ranges Trip

Published 2024-07-09
Had a few days off and decided a quick trip to more scenic areas was required.
The Southern Flinders Ranges is the place to visit in mid winter.

you can nearly see Whyalla from Handcock's lookout, its just over the Pt Bonython facility. Have lived in Whyalla for 48 years and have ridden everywhere locally on dirt bikes and roadies. Have travelled the northern flinders by 4x4 but it looks good for the GS! One day I grew up riding dirt bikes in Woomera in the 70s and I see you have had the same experience's in Pt Augusta. You may have crossed paths with my late brother Tom in Pt Augusta in the late 70s and 80s. We used to terrorize Pitchy Ritchi pass on a weekly basis as well as the lovely corners of Horrocks pass. When our nerves needed to be challenged we rode Pt Germain Gorge road We rode these roads on a variety of bikes, my brother on an RZ350 then a CB1100R with a couple of other Hondas thrown in! Me on various Yamaha's from XS1100, 650 turbo, Rz500 then FJ1100 and 1200 models. We lost Tom in 2002 but I still ride with him whenever I can I'm now rebuilding basket case classic and vintage bikes in retirement when I'm not out fishing. PM me if you want some local knowledge or just to get out for a ride

Great video.. I’m such a fan of the Flinders, however as I live on the Mornington Peninsula, it’s a big ride.. hey wondering if you are heading to the Off Centre Rally in August at Arkaroola? I hoping to go and have booked accommodation.. riding on my own and will take a few days to get there.. hope so see you there.. Craig .. White KTM 990

Nice vid. Love that part of the country. Are you still running the Motoz GPS on this trip?
