  • "Women's fiction" you mean... a character driven contemporary book with a woman as a protagonist where her romantic relationship isn't the central theme? I'm definitely with you re: it feeling so condescending as a genre definition! But I'm so glad Wildflower Season worked for you as much as it did ♥ I LOVE when authors narrate their own books--it always adds an enriching element to the narrative for me. Prequel feels like a book for the times. I'm very glad that it's not "doom and gloom" but is still very much centered in reality. Hear our voices is GORGEOUS, and it looks like that's true both aesthetically and content-wise. What a fantastic concept, and also really important right now. I really love that you highlight the narrator when you talk about the audiobooks you listen to. It's never occurred to me to do so but on reflection it's so important?? Like, that's the voice you're consuming the narrative through, and the inflections and emphases the narrator chooses are going to shape the way the narrative lives in you afterward. Yes, we love a just-before-the-buzzer NYE read to round out the year! I've followed CHF on youtube basically since she's started making videos but I haven't read her books yet. I'm so glad this one worked for you--it may be the CHF book I crack into first, because you make it sound so sweet!
  • Hear our voices sounds very good! I have really been interested in these kinds of books lately. Interesting hearing your thoughts on the warden because anthony trollope is an author I've been meaning to try for a long time and I have been dithering and dathering about where to start with his books... I have juniper's christmas which I saving for the christmas upcoming. But I don't mind santa as a character so maybe I could like it more? But I am sorry you didn't really like it as much as you wanted to!
  • @TheBookSanctum
I'm so glad you loved Into The Spotlight!! And on a different note entirely - I love your earrings!
  • @ARayofReading
So many interesting non-fiction reads! I hadn’t heard of prequel but it sounds like a really fascinating perspective that we aren’t taught much in America. The history is usually only poised as the us “valiantly trying to stop fascism”, so it’s so interesting to hear it wasn’t as clear cut as that and how that relates to current events. I’m very interesting in reading on Palestine! I didn’t know it was written in the style of a conversation, I feel like that will definitely help in the digestibility of the material. Into the spot light sounds so cute! Also I knew of Carrie hope fletcher as a theater actress but I had no idea she wrote fiction haha
  • Cara if you think you're behind... I haven't posted a wrap up since last July! At this point I don't think I'm going to lol. Hear Our Voices looks so lovely! Yes hearing from the colonised is so important... sadly still an aspect that is overlooked all too often!! So glad you appreciated On Palestine! I feel like that's one where you have to already have some grounding in the topic to be able to really get much out of it - or at least be willing to do your own research alongside!
