💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

Yaba and Tally Ho splashing within days of each other after years of rebuild and rework, amazing. congratulations to you all.
  • @dahak972
It’s a banner week in the sailing world! Yabba and Tally Ho launching so close together makes my heart happy!
  • @Ram-pc9ts
Congratulations on "rescuing" Yaba! Also, I love that you also "rescued" the two dogs. What a wonderful life they are going to have.

Being honest, I never thought this day would come in the beginning. I thought, this is a project with no plan and it's going to run out of money. I don't know how much it cost, but now, I don't care. I think you guys (Ben, MP, and especially MP's Dad, and the whole yard) totally smashed this project out of the park. Parabéns!

As Delos will go into construction, MJ is still in it. Ross, down under is still in it, Yaba is going to be the only channel in its 'leaving for adventure' phase. I predict it will be the fastest growing sailing channel of 2024-2025. Let's get them over the 100k subs before they leave !!!
  • Yaba looks at home now . Not a single leak . That is testament to all the hard work and skill that went into rebuilding her .
  • YABA and Tally Ho, both in one week. How great is this? Congratulations to you both along with your 'shipmates'. Yaba is truly a gorgeous lady of the sea.
  • Yabá and Tally Ho splashing in the same week on YouTube, what a treat!
  • When I first saw Yaba she was all tore up, derelict, and sinking. I did not need a surveyor to tell me the bad news. I was a little surprised you paid money to buy her, the previous owner would have had to pay me to take it as salvage. When Yaba was pulled from the water I was horrified at her condition. I recall saying, 'You Gonna Spend Some Money'. There is little difference between buying a sticks and bricks fixer upper and a boat in Yaba's condition. I have to say, now you own your first home as a couple and it looks to be a solid investment. I still don't like the bow sprit being patched and have some doubts about the masts being so old, but thats just me. I only wish I could go with you...
  • Ah,...May you have red sky at night for you well-deserved future journeys. It looks like you have not lost your touch at the wheel. Landlubbers are gone and the dogs are with you. What a wonderful world.

She looks beautiful and ready to go. After a very long rebuild, she is finally about ready to cut the cord and take on the adventures she was built for.
  • It was amazing to see Nico enjoying a ride on the river and one of the brothers who're the owners of the yard enjoying a barbecue at the end. I hope at some point all those involved at that yard get a chance for a short cruise and a barbecue with you as well. Especially the older gentlemen who's almost always never seen without a cigarette, I'm sorry his name escapes me right now. The level of craftsmanship that went into this rebuild was a pleasure to watch, getting it done old school with blood, sweat and tears as they say. Looking very much forward to continuing to see what and where your up to next. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...

What beautiful story, a beautiful family and two beautiful dogs 🐕 and of course a beautiful boat, GO YABA
  • @oshadi1
Congrats, 3.5 years, of watching you both and the dogs, (the black dog climbing the stairs), with love and admiration wishing you the best.
  • @jonjacob1962
As many of y'alls videos as I have seen, it has never truly dawned on me just how BIG Yaba actually is until just now. For some reason, seeing Ben turn the wheel while she's in motion really brought it into perspective for me. I'm so excited for you guys. Congratulations! I hope you guys can sail up to Annapolis MD sometime and let me buy you both a drink. That would be pretty cool. At any rate. It's so awesome seeing this project finally come together and move under its own power. WITHOUT any leaks. Lol.
  • @mrbill8542
She's beautiful---can't wait to see her in full sail !!!!
  • This ship is a blessing for the eye! For me the most beautiful ship to own! One Dutch word! GEWELDIG!!!
  • What is really hilarious is that I’ve been watching Leo and Tally Ho for the last couple of years, then this popped up in my feed and I suddenly realised I knew Ben from when he was a child in Sandgeen and his mum is my lifetime friend Tess. Congratulations Ben, I’ve just finished a Drascombe Dabber renovation!
  • @clayfarnet970
Hey Captain, I think the reason your boat isn’t responding to inputs the same as fishing boats is due to the prop size and pitch. Only three years. :) Your boat is absolutely beautiful. Great job guys. Enjoy!
  • Remembering back to the early days, all the doubters, especially about the engine that is just purring now. If what we've seen so far is any indication it's going to be an impressive boat under way.
