The relatives of a French explorer who perished during a submersible vessel's implosion have initiated a lawsuit seeking damages exceeding $50 million. They claim that the crew suffered extreme fear and psychological distress prior to the calamity while headed down toward the Titanic wreckage, and they allege that the operator of the submersible was grossly negligent.

The legal complaint states that approximately 90 minutes into the descent, the Titan "released weights," signaling that the team either terminated or attempted to terminate the dive.
