Tausug food is one of the most underrated cuisines in the Philippines. Palm Grill and Cabel are restaurants that champion the decadent dishes from the “ZambaSulTa” (Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi) provinces in Mindanao like “Tiyula Itum,” “Piyanggang Manok,” and “Beef Piassak.”

These precolonial recipes use a lot of different ingredients and cooking methods which are not found anywhere else in the archipelago like the “Siyunug Lahing” or burning coconut which is a preservation technique that is added to a special spice called “Pamapa” (burnt coconut with spices). Learn more about how serving Tausug food in the capital city is helping change the narrative about an entire region with every bite!

Already shared with family and friends abroad, telling them to "Taste Mindanao" on their next balik bayan 😋👍 It's not just Mindanao cuisine but also familial generational love the brothers are sharing ❤

Just had an amazing pre-Christmas dinner at Cabel. The food and service was amazing. Thank you for broadening our food horizon. The in house made desserts were also spot on.
  • I grow up in Mindanao but I only know tiyola itum, a delicious stew as it was often served by our professor in Marawi everytime there's a special occasion.

Oh Ma'am Oswalda Cabel, I can vividly recall how charismatic she was. my pops always admired her. The Sangkula's was always been behind her back. #OG

As a person from luzon , i genuinely know nothing about mindanao. I blame it on our media coverage. All i know about mindanao are negative stereotypes about their people. The average filipinos around me are clueless about the cultures of southern Filipinos.
