Syrsky pointed out that Russia started it's 'full-scale' invasion of Ukraine with just 100,000 ground forces, it is now over 520,000 (50,000 greater in number than the entire active U.S. Army) and predicted to be just shy of 700,000 by years end.

Still talking about the naval victories, this isn't the 1800's

'' Russia isn't entirely failing at this point...''

The IOC should be a non political entity..if anything promoting hatred and discrimination should never be part of its doctrines. Weaponising sport as the west wants to do is unacceptable

It's never made sense to me why sports tournaments matter so much? It just reinforces tribalism which eventually boils down to war and misery. When will we learn? P.S. A good example of this, I think, is the brexit vote date, it was bang in the middle of the Euros football tournament 2016 when we (UK) were doing alright on the pitch and relatively alright in the real world but what an easily avoidable mess we've made for ourselves!

I think western countries are having bit wrong approch the ukraine war. Western countries believed that it's sufficient to show our resolve to support ukraine and Russia would back from war due to how costly it is both in manpower, economy and military stockpiles. But this is where west had miscalculated. Russia is willing to continue the war no matter the cost as long as it's able to. For Putin giving up the war would symbolically be giving up on Russia as a great power and losing the war would be seen as his failure. Russia will continue the war no matter the cost for as long as it's able to and unfortunately Russians are willingly to suffer great deal before demanding political change. Maybe they'll eventually revolt, but it's not something western countries can rely on. While the war is definetly taking heavy toll on Russia, Russia is country with such vast resources and manpower that even just war-stretched domestic production is able to keep the war going for long time and that is going to be very costly for Ukranians. West needs to be ready to bring Russian industry to their knees. Western weapons are capable of hitting Russian factories and oil refineries and preventing Ukraine striking these key infrastructures targets allows Russia to keep up the wartime production and economy to produce and buy weapons. Moreover it unnecessarily protect regular Russians from consequences of war (in terms of shortages of goods) their goverment is conducting. The only way to force Russian army incapable of conducting war is bringing down Russian industry and there is pleanty of targets within range of western weapons. The fastest way to end the conflict is to bring Russia to it's knees. Even targeting their industry the war likely isn't going to end as soon as we would hope, but if nothing else it would also reduce Russian's capability of hittin Ukranian civilians and soldiers making conducting war much more difficult for Russia as army is unable to replace lost equipment due to industrial shortages. I hope telegraph is one of the few outlets understanding the importance of making sure Russia loses this war and would be able to promote the view point for west to take harsher stance on Ukraine war and promote the understanding why that is the case.

Thomas Bach is so compromised by his past. Germans I've spoken to regard him as a national embarrassment.

Great to hear a Russian who was suppose to 'whatever' at the Olympics was arrested, the Olympic Committee lack of interest is deplorable... ! Sad to hear about the updates on the Russian invasion.. seems every day it just gets worse as interest around the world is waning. Hope Harris as president will be less timid on Ukraine.

Russia can offer whatever wages it wants, its unlikely it will ever pay that annual salary out completely
-
How long will we let Russia play in all our western games while the actively work against the principles and infrastructure that make them possible?!?

Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

Biden can do a lot to help Ukraine. All the things he should have done at the start. Political will is the problem and at the very least he should ignore Jake Sullivan and lift restrictions.

I wonder how Ukraine will survive the coming Winter with 70% of their power Stations knocked out?

The Olympic Committee lost a golden opportunity to stop this war, and to prevent future wars. When athletes from aggressor-countries are shun — publicly — it is a very visible gesture. It makes people ask the question - Why? And it provides the answer. It makes people uncomfortable, and maybe some will demand reverting to a normal life and behavior. Right now, the only questions the IOC is stirring is Why are they welcoming Russians? What is the benefit of IOC in this? How is this beneficial to the rest of the athletes?
