Walk Through History - 74 kHz High Frequency Metal Detecting On A Field

Time for a metal detecting adventure on a field. I recorded this video right after I purchased the white elliptical coil.

The start was a little bit disappointing, I didn't had a good feeling at first, but even on a field it all comes down to intuition...

The hunt developed slowly and the finds started to show up. The beginning made a porcelain figurine, probably a doll with moving (missing) arms. Unfortunately the plow must have hit it several times over the years, which is a real shame. Imagine how nice it would be to find something like this in one piece.

The same goes for the (relatively heavy) toy (lead) horse... At least his head was still there, moved to one side...

I also found a very old silver coin. It looked like a tiny piece of aluminum at first, because of broken/missing edges. A second look revealed very old silver. A "Heller" (with the hand) probably from 1200-1350 (I can't exactly tell).
More info on this coin: en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces72645.html

I found two even much older coins lost by Romans. One was broken, and the other one covered with a hard crust.

What was my impression about the coil and the 74 kHz frequency? I found lots of tiny stuff, mostly trash. Does this mean, couldn't find all of this with the old, black coil in 19 kHz? I'm not so sure about this...
All finds were pretty shallow. I think, I could find it with other coils.
Today I would probably skip the fourth tone and detect with slightly negative ground balance.

At the end (despite all the finds) I was a little bit disappointed to be honest. I don't know if "hunting a field" was the reason (which put my assistant into sleep), or different expectations that day.

P.s. I have more field hunts. If you like this type of detecting, I could upload a field hunt from time to time.

Thanks for watching!

Hi fellow hunter, I would love to see more field hunts. I prefer to go to the forrest, but from time to time a fields could be interesting change. Good luck from Czech.
  • Ive learned "field hunting" is different than any other hunting.  It is a different sound and different depth.  I enjoyed this video.  I hope you are healing and will be soon back out hunting those high hills you love to climb.
  • @advenzures
Great video, thank you for sharing. Happy Hunting.

Always good to see any of your videos. We would love to see a field hunt, too. Just want you better and happy. Prayers for you, my friend!

Guess your companion knew that the horse and "vintage" female torso were the most interesting to him...he fell asleep for the rest.  Perhaps he should use the marble to gaze into before he surveys the next field.  Miss the carefree hunting days pre accident.  Not the places or finds, but miss your anticipation, your search, your unexpected humor at times, just miss you being able to do what you love so much.  Many thanks for sharing your joy with us.  We pray and our thoughts are sent with/for positive outcomes.

Congratulations on today’s discoveries. A lot of targets for sure. Successful hunt. See you on your next and best of luck.

I really enjoyed your video as it was in the open field. The soil seems to be harder on coins than in the forest. Thanks for sharing your video. I also hope that you are healing from your accident.

Which is better elliptical or round hf coil, I have elliptical and x35 11, should I exchange elliptical or x35 11 for hf9 round coil?
  • @SandBoy408
Definitely, with an high frequency, you need a minor coil. No way to increase depth with larger coil, because highs frequencies doesn´t penetrate so much in the soil. The result is more accuracy in pinpointing and vdi, a clearer signal, but no depth, and objecst will stay tiny. This combination with the elliptical coil is good for tiny shallow object. Great video, as always...

I also want to start looking for findings, do you have a recommendation for metal detectors for beginners? also like your content, it is very relaxing
  • @sleepyllama3050
Hah that porcelain figure was a pretty lucky find but what a shame that it’s broken

Thank you for another good hunt. Hopefully your leg is improving. I assume the General has visited the hairdresser since this was made.
