Treasure Hunt With A Hunch - An Almost Perfect Day In The Woods!

Follow me to metal detect a new spot, with high anticipations.
I saw an interesting area during my last relic hunt and decided to come back, which I did in this video. I started earlier, something I often do, to get there within a reasonable amount of time, while checking the area in front.

I made a few finds here and there (like a 1925 coin and a few musket balls), but when I finally got there, there was not much going on. After a few targets and a distance through “emptiness” , I started questioning my decision. Just when this happened another signal appeared. I was expecting another musket ball, but to my surprise it was something else. A silver coin!

At first I thought it must be 1600’s, like the previous coins from this forest, but no… It was a “VI Kreuzer” coin from 1732, totally unrelated to all the previous finds. What followed was a real pleasure as two more signals appeared. Both were coins, but I wasn’t sure if silver. It was copper, both coins probably from 1700's as well.

Once this small coin spill was over I came across another signal and a three modern coins from the previous German currency. A shame about the big “5 Mark” coin not being silver, but that’s fine. It would be too much anyway. At this point I was already very satisfied with the outcome.

The last find came in form of a 1700’s cufflink. After my camera quit working I decided to follow and go home as well.

I hope you had fun. Thanks for watching!

  • Well done once again and thank you for sharing your experience with me. And I like your sounds to your slide show idea. 👍
  • What a terrific hunt with coins too, one just had to be silver. What luck. A good decision to revisit this location . X

  • I just came back from Iowa in the Des Moines area and was thinking of you finding WWII aircraft bullet casings. Drove right past Ankeny, Iowa where they made those bullets!! What a coincidence!!

I thought you had a coin spill for a second. Nice technique on the coin find.

You need a good metal detecting shovel!
  • Hi MD24, the nasty emi is definitely caused by your cell phone (when it connects to the antenna). Maybe you carry it very close to your audio recorder, or if you use an external mike, the cable might be not shielded properly. Nice silver coin! BTW have you ever tried electrolysis with those rotten coppers? I know, it removes any patina, but sometimes one can at least identify them. (5% Na2CO3 (washing-soda) solution, 10-20 mA per sqare cm surface, 5-12 hours). Best regards
