Im now 70, your videos fill me with nostagia. My first train set 1959 was R3M , the metro Cammel st with battery controller, it needed 3 bell batteries. Christmas 59, i was 6 , i woke up , it was so cold and dark, I opened the box in the dark, it was freezing in the bedroom. I almost peed my self with joy and excitment. I wentq down stairs and lit the gas fire and played with it on the floor. Happy days, simple days wheN being a child was SO GOOD.

Your videos are so inspirational. I am so looking forward to the day I can start my own layout. I arrived in the UK from South Africa a few months ago and am in temporary accommodation until I get myself sorted. All the models I have acquired over the past ten years or so abroad were shipped and are in storage for the time being. As soon as I find where I want to settle, I shall begin my project. In the meantime, I am still accruing extra things on ebay which have eluded me whilst living overseas. The EMU is one of my favourites. I recall reading in the Pat Hammond book that because the real one operated on the southern lines, the model wasn't as popular elsewhere in the country and sales weren't as strong. Thanks for your hard work.
  • Sunday morning watching playing trains with toast and coffee, thankyou. Enjoying the high level railway development and all your railway.

Great video. The upper level return loop will be fabulous. The Triang EMU head code is a letter. They were used to designate services for signallers. But passengers soon knew what they meant too. So the V is Waterloo to Earlsfield, Teddington, Richmond. So the London suburbs.

Hi Oscar. Nice condition for their age. As a youngster, I used to travel on Southern BR EMUs and lived in Wimbledon facing the Waterloo main and suburban northbound and southbound railway lines, then eventually went on to work at Wimbledon Station. I noticed that Triang produced packs of 3-car units when in actual fact, in reality, all BIL units were run as 2-car and 4-car units, as were the SUB units. In the rush hour, 4-car units were sometimes doubled up to form 2×4-car units making a rake of 8 cars. Just thought I'd point that out. Paul. 👍❤

Very interesting video. Bringing back wonderful childhood memories. Thank you !

Love the overhead railway and station. It's going to be great when it's finished. The EMU reminds me of the prototype Red Rattlers in Sydney (Tri-ang made a model of them, R.450) going across the elevated Circular Quay station. Even the sound is similar due to the ribbed wheels. Back in the day when you could ride along with the sliding door open taking in the balmy summer Sydney weather. No air conditioning back then and terribly dangerous of course. Guy

Hey Oscar, you are an inspiration to me having rediscovered model railway in the NZ 2020 lockdown. This emu was my boyhood train set complete with a separate carriage and goods wagon and series 3 rails, approx 1964 I think. I'm not even sure how my widowed mother could have afforded it but think she was helped by an organisation called Birthright as my father, originally from Wales, was killed in a road accident that year. Anyhow I pulled the set out in 2020 and watched clever UK people on YouTube so I could restore it. It's been running beautifully on the super 4 track which I'm gradually collecting. I'm visiting the UK in September and have been sending bits and pieces to my sister there as part of my ongoing obsession with model railway 😁 Unfortunately Ebay have outrageous shipping costs to this part of the world so I no longer use that ripoff merchant. All the best and thanks for the video.

Thanks Oscar, great to see the progess on the upper level, and the Triang EMU, another of my favourite models, I have a few, some are a bit uncared for but they do run. I'm fairly sure, although a Southern Region expert may know better, the code on the model is an actual 'V' rather than a Roman numeral, the Southern did use letter as well as numerical codes.
  • Fab video again Oscar. Those early wheels make a great noise don't they, i have them on my Blue Pullman. The EMU is a lovely model, can't understand why it wouldn't be popular, unless it was due to the nostalgia for steam at the time.
  • @davidround8438
Hi Oscar! It was interesting to see the EMU. I have one of these from new. It is in storage somewhere. It was not the most exciting of trains but its saving grace was that the knurled wheels made it sound remarkably like the electric EMUs of the time!
  • @paull2613
Wow Oscar that track work is going to be great, it's really taking shape. I found what your able to do with the 3d printer fascinating. Being a southern man, these EMU'S formed part of my childhood both real and model, with many hours of play and happy Journeys to Horsham and Worthing on these units, the best of memories thank you Oscar
  • Morning Oscar, lovely model this week. I used to be a Southerner so i love an EMU. Great work on the railway. It seems its going to be every little boys dream layout, elevated section, return loops, double turntables, fantastic. Keep it up, as you would say, it's highly appreciated. Maurice Godfroy, Namibia.

Morning Oscar, was thinking of buying the EMU the other night, could not make up my mind, so thought I'II have a look at one of your old video when I had time, as you have not had it out on this particular layout. You beat me to it! The elevated section reminds me of the 'docker's Umbellar' in Liverpool which was dismantled back in 1958 due to corrosion caused by the dock steam engines running underneath it, It was a big loss to all of us. All the best, as per previous comments very much appreciated.
  • @clairependrous4512
I love these videos Oscar, very calming to watch and listen to. Thank you.
  • @RobA500
Great update Oscar, I like the idea of the elevated return loop.
  • @roystudds1944
I just love that EMU. That might just be that I’m in the Southern area and remember seeing them and riding in them as a youngster. Good progress with the elevated section. That return loop is going to be amazing. Thanks for sharing Oscar. Always a pleasure to start Sunday with you. Roy.
