On December 6, Facebook was sued for its role in facilitating the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The Facebook Papers revealed how the company chased profits - often at the expense of safety.
So can we trust Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse won't become a tool for misinformation and surveillance?

  • Whoever bullied this dude in high school please just apologize. He's off the rails.

It’s insane how Zuckerberg and Bezos somehow managed to make virtual reality and astronauts uncool.
  • The core of the problem is Facebook needs the information bubble in order to maximise monetisation from online presence. Unless you drastically change the underlying algorithm, no amount of policing will help. This change would automatically halve the company's revenue, which is why it will never happen.

The general term of metaverse (not Zuck's own "Meta" and attempt to monopolize on it) may prove to be an exciting and well integrated piece of technology and CREATIVITY for our current systems. If it does not remain free (which we struggle with in this regular 3d reality across the entire planet) then we will notice it to a LARGER EXTENT I believe. The digital realm of gaming has been virtually unscathed by advertisements and money grabs (enter World of Warcraft followed by its predecessors). Yet, if "gaming" consists of too many unpopular real world monopolies and or CONTROL tactics, there will be an uprising to protect our identities and individual rights to the constitution and personal sovereignty. I believe this is a struggle we are CURRENTLY playing ▶️ out, and the end result is yet to be determined. We will need to stand up to ANYONE and ANYTHING who attempts to break our democracy, who attempts to own us and our information. Ready Player 1 is real, The Matrix is real, 1984 is as well. Value your rights, your worth! We can do away with corporate greed owning us, our politics, our very way of being. Steer the course, love 💜, and question everything you're being told! This is the war of information age. Nothing is as it seems. Hopefully we will figure out this ethereal space before we head into another- the metaverse. F off Zuckerberg! Creative love ❤️‍🔥🏞️💙 will put you into the ground!

It's insane how the most poorly socialized, emotionally unavailable people of our society are setting the standards for human interaction.

I have stop using Facebook 6 years ago. The reason is, there is so much hate being spread around unnecessarily, making my life stressful. You guys should do it too.
  • Blaming Facebook for people’s body image issues and depression is like blaming the liquor store owner for a drunk driving accident. What you do with the product is up to you.
  • @drewdrummr
I've been without Facebook for over five years and trust - when you leave, you will not wish to return. Next step is migrating away from Instagram, as it is owned by and plagued with the same issues.

I mean, Mark could just grab his millions and live a proper life filled with hobbies and joy. But he chooses to turn the world into a dystopian sci-fi society. Thanks man.

I erased my Facebook account years ago,i dont miss the bs one bit! Best thing ive ever done besides quitting smoking.
  • Imagine metaverse is like the matrix but without legs your just hanging around lol

The fact the youtube no longer shows dislikes is pissing me off immensely. It's really hard for people to determine whether a video is causing contention or not, which is actually important.

Well, we need to take responsibility when using Facebook or Meta. As parents, why do we allow or kids to have a FB, Tiktok, or any other social media accounts? All these problems can't be blamed on FB alone.
  • @DaddyDoom
Last week I got blocked for 3 days for jokingly saying "I would throw a shoe to that guy", in Portuguese. In my language, the expression is a colloquialism, not intended to be taken literal and is often used in a joking context. FB flagged it as "incinting to violence". I've been blocked two other times, for very similar reasons. Made an appeal everytime, to no avail. They don't even bother to acknowledge they are wrong. These guys are so worried with blocking hate speech that they've started censuring people for the most idiotic reasons, while the hate speech continues, often disguised.

No matter what you say about the Metaverse (scary as name as well) you will never, NEVER get the same feeling of climbing a mountain in real life or meeting with friends in a restaurant. Some things technology cannot replicate are real feelings that make us happy.

Leave facebook, leave Instagram, leave them all you dont need them. Focus on those around you and not an endless list of people you dont know.
  • @the_platform
I love how the CEO is being used as a scapegoat. Do you seriously think it’s just this one guy responsible for all of this. Sure, he started the darn thing in a college dorm room back when he was a punk kid. But imagine all those who help push the Facebook agenda forward. Oh, not to mention all the Facebook users and the people who work there. Even the janitor.
