In Godzilla's defense, he had been basically fighting non-stop for 2 days on top of searching for Mechagodzilla before actually fighting him, so at that point he was pretty tired. The director even said that Godzilla wouldn't have had much issue taking Mechagodzilla down if he was fresh on the scene

I love how Mechagodzilla gradually took Kong more seriously as the fight progressed when he was mainly focusing on Godzilla. In Mechagodzilla’s eyes Kong went from being nothing more than an inconvenience to a primary threat when he brought out the axe. 💀💀

Kong had 100% confidence that he was gonna win on land after that underwater beating he took...Not realizing that Godzilla on land is just as scary.

Fun fact: Godzilla wasn’t taking the first 2 rounds seriously because he was so certain he would win, but once Kong injured his pride the kiddie kaiju gloves came off

Even though he lost, respect to Kong. Even though he is basically just a giant gorilla, he still put in work against a mythological creature that can swim, shoot lasers, and get stronger from nuclear energy. And Kong ended up saving Godzilla and destroying Godzilla 2.0. But even when he was hurt and had like 10 HP, Kong still stood tall when it looked like Godzilla wanted to run the 1's again.

Seeing the comparison to Vegeta makes the Godzilla x Kong trailer hit harder. They really had the same type of arc, enemies, to earned respect, to reluctant allies, to brothers. I hope it fulfills this arc in the next movie, and that we get to see more Godzilla and Kong together even after that.

Godzilla pretty much proved in 2 battles that he was superior to Kong, but Kong did fought better than expected both times, while also earning Godzilla's respect. Even though Godzilla in his weakened state needed Kong's help to defeat mechagodzilla, Godzilla still ended the film as the undisputed king of the monsters.

As someone in the navy, The carrier getting cut in half always gets me. Never was on a carrier but the idea of me on my ship sinking cause a monkey is fighting a lizard in the middle of an ocean gets me feeling scared XD
