7 Types of People At The Range

I've spent an unprecedented amount of time at gun ranges. It goes without saying that there are a ton of personality who find themselves at a shooting range at some point in their life. However, some characters stand out more than others so here's my list of the seven types of people you'll see at the range that stand out most to me.

You forgot the person that goes there and minds his own business and leaves everyone alone.
  • "To them, the trigger is a finger rest." That line actually made me chuckle.

The best compliment of my life was when I took my brother in-law shooting for his first time and walked him thru how to do everything safely, when we went to pay our range fees the owner/operator charged me as a trainer, when I asked him if he made a mistake he was completely confused and legitimately thought I was one telling me he would hire me in a heartbeat if I got my cert
  • Need to add the "Gravy SEAL" The guy totally kitted up, shoots constantly, always talking about tactics, but he'd have a heart attack climbing a flight of stairs.
  • I’m the anti social guy. I walk in, pay my range fee/target, do my shooting, pack up my gun and leave.

This is why I like the range I go to. It's an outdoor range, and everyone pretty much keeps to themselves and is polite. Never had one issue.

I had the Safety Violator to day. He flagged me 3 times and when I called him out on it, he flagged me again. Then he had the balls to say he didn't flag me. He was holding a revolver with his hand over in front of the finger guard, getting burns on his hands. He broke every safety rule, I think we made some new ones today just for him.
  • You forgot the hickock45. "I don't think im going to hit" *literally hits with every shot in bullseye
  • @darkdanger3901
What about that one dude that brings a .500 magnum and literally makes the ground shake every time he shoots.

I'm becoming the "I genuinely want to know how to shoot type." So a forever student type. I finally get it. I go in for reps, making every shot count. Try to expose myself to firing around other gunfire, not flinching, not blinking, and finally -- making the gun an extension of my being. That last part is the fun part, it creates a real relationship between you and the firearm. All of that is just reps over time.

Lol! “Mr. Rapid Fire”…I shoot next to that every range trip!

I'm the "I'm just here to practice, leave me the hell alone" guy.

I've approached other shooters - to ask for advice - three times. All were glad to help. As a hapless novice I asked a young woman crack shooter next to me to try my new Glock 19, thinking my problems were the gun. She was a Detroit cop. Hit all bullseyes, and then gave me a 3 minute tutorial. Huge immediate improvement.
  • You also forgot the guy who goes there with crazy guns and asks everyone else if they want to shoot them😆🤣 they're like polar opposites to the can I shoot it guy. They still make you uncomfortable sometimes but it's better to be asked if you want to shoot their guns than if they can burn all your ammo
  • Here in Ohio we have ODNR(Ohio Department of Natural Resources) outdoor gun ranges. The one in Spring Valley Ohio just south of Xenia has been remodeled and is really nice. The Range Safety Officers are actually Ohio Wildlife Officers who are in fact law enforcement officers. Everyone was really nice and the RSOs were to. I think they are open year round, but the range fee is only 5 dollars for the whole day, 25 dollars for a yearly membership(which you can get at any Rural King gun counter) and you have to bring your own ammo and targets. They have pistol, shotgun, rifle, and even an archery range where you can try out your bows and arrows. If you are ever in Ohio come on over and check them out. Really nice people, and a really nice range. Plus, outdoor ranges are more fun and not as loud as an indoor range which I like as well.

I'm the, "Goes shooting in the desert so I don't have to be around all these types" type
  • @iiGingiey
Let's be honest if he rapid fires a bolt action who wouldn't be impressed
  • @2WheelsdownN
You forgot the guy who brings his whole safe lol
  • @RamiAq
I'm the "Loner" This is the type of guy that goes to the range when no one else is there... shoots 1 or 2 boxes... says nothing to no one other than "hey"..
