Scam Tier list for Oldschool Runescape

The candle scam in the boots of lightness house got me for the most gp back in the day. They even had a youtube video that showed you how to make money off the scammers. I tried what they showed in the video and learned the hard way that the scammers made the youtube video.

That corp beast instance scam explanation is part of the bait. That is what they get you to think that they are going to do (and of course you will think that you know how to beat it because you can just not click the teleport), but what the ACTUAL scam is, is that as soon as they see that you aren't holding your items (they have been dropped), they kick you from fc, which kicks you from the instance, then they wait 1 min and take ur shit.

When runescape was a browser game, the ol "Drop your bank and press Alt + F4 to double it" was golden.

When I was 19, I won 6 bonds from a Sparc Mac giveaway and instantly sold them to try to get enough money for pegasians. I was 500k short and inpatient. So I hopped to 330 and started to chat spam that I was buying them for 27m instead of something like 27.5m. I was 2 days into traveling abroad to Australia from America and I was super sick with a fever. This guy asks to see the cash, I put it in the window, he puts a tele in and says his main will meet me in seers bank. I accept and tele to seers bank excited for my brand new pairt of shiny green boots. I wait there for about 2 minutes confused why nothing is happening and see no gp in my inventory. Honestly I was super sad in that moment, but looking back it was funny as hell. Guy just caught me at the perfect time. Sick, jet lagged, and overly excited. Shit happens.

Thanks for the explanation for the bournos, I always saw those guys spamming the offers that were obviously too good to be true, but I never tried trading one to see what exactly they were trying to do.

The teleport scam had me rolling, like you i just think it would be hilarious to mess with people for laughs. It's kind of like asking to see someones haircut when slaying monsters requiring nosepegs or ear protection, they take off the slayer helm and get slapped.

The one scam that will stay with me for life was the noted rune/iron equipment quick swap back in the day. Lost about 80k, but it's a lesson to never forget to double check the trade screen.

I got scammed back when the trade screen was one button. People would try to remove the money as I hit accept. Thankfully, they changed how trades work.

I got banned for trust trading when i was 13. Its when you show an expensive item and people trade you items, you post the current highest price trade completed. You then give the stuff back and the next guy trades you stuff worth more than the last person. You do this until someone trades a stupid amount of stuff and you dip with it.

I'm under the impression that your account is less secure if you use a keyboard to type in your pin because if you were keylogged you are also giving away your pin, as opposed to using your mouse to enter your pin. 🤷‍♂️

Seeing how people where willing to manipulate, lie and do anything to other humans just to scam a few GP in a game like runescape, showed the true side of human greed. Suddenly I was not going to be surprised that someone is willing to fuck you up irl over 10 dollars, when you experienced what people was willing to do just for 1 gp in runescape.

Drop lure still works: If you drop your items in upstairs Varrock Castle you can somehow get punched behind an open door and trapped if there's an account logged in beneath spam clicking. Bottom line: Don't drop your items.

the drop lure got me way back in the day, it wasnt about getting pk'd, theyd throw you some kind of sticky ball while youre crossing, it makes you weigh too much or something iirc and you fall and drop all your gear. then they telegrab it from the bridge
