Spanish phrases from the video:

“Hay batería de cocina?”/“Hay cubiertos y ollas para cocinar?” (Are there kitchen supplies/Are there pots, pans, and utensils?”)
“Se puede cocinar en el albergue?” (Can we cool at the the albergue?)

great analysis, Kate...many thanks...yes, the dinners in albergues can range from simple to elegant. Yet it is always a good evening when you can share a meal with others. be well and bc!

Thank you for the video!!! Tip: you should have dinner around 9 PM because the time zone we use in Spain (CET) is wrong and the solar time doesn't match the official time. So 9PM at summer are like 7PM in the US or any other country in the world.
  • Dinner in smaller towns was definitely harder because of the late dining hours and lack of grocery stores. I stayed at the Albergue Milpes in Ribadiso da Carretera where the proprietor speaks English and knows what pilgrims want. He serves dinner from 6pm to 9pm! Pilgrims from other albergues came to eat there too. Menu del dia plus a la carte from a regular menu and pretty decent food. Whether it's on the camino or eating elsewhere in nice restaurants across Spain, I found the food to be bland and nothing special. Had some interesting meals...
  • Looking forward to eating in Spain! I'm pescetarian so I think I shouldn't have too much trouble, though I have heard there may be a few slimmer options. I know octopus is really big Galicia--but I've stopped eating them--sentient beings you know!
