My father gave me his Pro Mac 610 back in 2005 that he used in the 80s in upstate NY on our farm when I was a kid. It still runs great, I have always loved the look and sound of it. It makes me think of my dad and I working together, he would cut the wood, and I would pick up the pieces and stack them in the wood trailer behind the old tractor. I have all the manuals, parts, owner and service manuals for this series. In 2006, I got one of these used saws on eBay for $50.00. Sold as is, not running but has good compression. I replaced the spark plug and it fired right up. I kept finding these saw for dirt cheap on eBay so I learned how to repair them, which isn't that hard. When I moved from New Mexico back up to upstate New York in 2020, you should have seen the look on the faces of the movers of the Atlas moving company when they were in my shop looking up at 13 McCulloch Pro Mac 610s on the shelf, then the vintage 10-10, 200 and 250, Model 15, Mini-Mac, Homelite XL Automatic, Poulan Pro 4218a, and two chinese chainsaws (58cc and 62cc, one orange and the other yellow. That's when I thought to myself...."What the hell is the matter with me???" LOL Thanks for the video!!
  • Great overview of a SOLID line of power saws. I have a 610 and agree with everything you said about these saws. Great video!

..Torque, man, torque!..slower RPM's, but way more grunt than a newer high-RPM saw, especially in a similar displacement situation...I love it, an older guy(I'm 55 myself) that say's your a weenie if you complain about the weight!.. :)..I'm a long-time chainsaw mechanic, but have pretty much retired from it because I have had enough of the modern autotune, m-tronic, strato saws, etc. with finicky electronics, extra wires, complicated intake systems, and extra crap crammed in there that make them difficult and time-consuming to work on...I get guys all the time, who keep wanting a lighter and lighter saw(but want the same durability and power, of course)...often, the older the guys are, the lighter they want their saws..well, I hate to say it, but when you start complaining that a 10-pound saw is too heavy, maybe you're getting to the point where it's no longer safe for you to run a chainsaw?....

Well this is the second time I’ve watched this video. Haha “recycled toilet paper”. That was good for a laugh. Just taking an interest in McCullochs lately. I ported a little plastic mac and It looks like it was in one of those broshures but under one of the many model names they used over the years. Mine is a PM425AV which is the same as the Mac 3200 3516 etc. Sticker on mine says made in Mexico but another one says made in Taiwan. They have that same boxy look to them. When I first layed my hands on one I thought what absolute junk and now it’s my main cheap bush saw. No drama from it just runs great and even better now that it’s ported. Does not leak a drop of oil and simple to work on. Smooth to run but plastic so you can’t drive over these with a tractor and get away with it lol. Another thing is it starts in 2 pulls. I will keep my eye out for a Pro mac 610 or 650. You can really here the difference in that 650. One thing about not buying anything new is that I won’t be able to say “ I got that 30 years ago”. Lol

I picked up a vintage 650 and two 1-40. They are low RPM but all still running and still cutting through logs.

So I decided to get new bars for my 610, and Montgomery Ward. Then both coils failed in a week. Back to the '87' Jonsered, but she now tinkles fuel when full! Ah well, winter is here, no cut'in icicles for me ! I must say you do a fine grind to the chains. THANKS MUCH
  • OK, you've got me! The 650 is on my wish list now! 🙂 I'm a 10-Series / Super Pro guy so far. Very interesting information about the factory porting of the 650! Here in Germany there are a few 600-Series saws on ebay from time to time. Most of the times around $70 to $100. The are no real beauties in my eyes, but let's see how it feels having one of them in the woods. It sounds to me, that they did some very interesting improvements in comparison to the PM 10-10 for example, with the anti-vibration and adjustable carb and oiler from the outside. I have a PM 300 which is crap to me and I always thought that the 610 and 650 play in the same league, but you made me curious now. Let's see! 🙂 Thank you for your informative videos! Kind regards!

Hey ! Nice one...and like you humor or the frases..." common like dirt but rear as heck " he he. I have a 610 and so positive to hear all this positive about exactely the saw i bought on trip home...witj out knowing much about it. Those might be the most produced volum saw...but one told me that S-10 Stihl was the biggest in the volum on planet ever... I hear you say Homelite is it...? 12 is good number second with not so big margines. ANYWAY....the saw ...the 610...it is rear i will say here in Norway...to be bought and found...so I very happy owner. Yes...it started right away...but waiting for a fresh chain...as it was very dull. Of course make clip/ film of it later on... Thx for informing us and sharing ! :-) Not many of you kind with this level of interesting insight !

I own to two 610s there great saws and they don't pick your pick your pockets like other saws 😆
  • @jakeschmidt2647
My grandpa has a McCullouch 610 he used all the time when he used to heat his house with wood. Last time the saw was used was 1987. I wanted a bigger saw and am too cheap to buy a new one so I drug it out of the garage and dusted it off, put new gas in it, pulled it over about 8 times and it fired right up. Couldn’t believe it. Sitting 35 years and it runs like you just used it last weekend. They don’t make ‘‘em like that anymore

One thing worth mentioning mac's don't over heat like the xl12 do on a warm day the gas boils in the homelite making them hard to start I don't care how rich you run them I am not a hater I love my homelites I took down a 36 inch ash at 85 last fall it was hard as a rock never over heated one pull restarts I don't think my 10 10 pro mac would have did nearly as well love my 610s thay cut way out of there class just bomb proof thanks for everything
