  • Hi Michael, as a bass player in a "Shadows" band I very much appreciate anyone who puts effort in getting to the original "Hank" sounds. Don't let anyone discourage you! Keep on playing!

Forget about the hateful comments Michael. You are doing a great job my friend. Remember folks, only Hank sounds like Hank no matter what gear you've got.
  • You did a great job with it. Definitely caught the feel of the music.
  • Michael,,absolutely well done,,you will inspire a lot of young inexperienced players to practice,.practice.!.and work on getting it right!,you've persevered to get that sound,,this will encourage players to do the same!,,I'm sure Hank never got it right until the last take.!.thanks for your work!
  • Great job Michael . Lots of people need help with various things in music so thanks for taking the time to make your videos and also giving advice and tips. Best wishes from Liverpool uk
  • Excellent sound Michael, I have searched for the Shadows sound all my life. You really need to use the tremolo arm, watch Hank he never stops using it.
  • Hi Michael, this is brilliant, I've watched it many times and have taken in every word you have spoken, I'm 67 and just started learning guitar and as you rightly say, practice and practice, I'll get there in the end. Thank you very much
  • Keep going Michael you have put some major effort in there. What you have to remember is artists such as Hank and others play these tunes everyday to thousands and will play different versions ie will change notes and techniques in every performance. As for practice it's super important to practice for at least 3-4 hrs daily. I'm a singer in the Rat pack style but mainly Dean Martin is my influence. I know about 50+ songs word perfect. How I did that was every night in bed I literally perform a full set of songs in my head, I've been doing this for the last 5 yrs. It's easier that way as your subconscious mind is like a sponge that retains info.
  • Hi Michael, I'm a great fan of The Shadows. Thanks for posting this video.
  • Brilliant video ....very informative. Impressive playing too...I'd love to be able to play like you.
  • Excellent Michael. I took up the guitar at the age of 62. Well done 👍 😎
  • Hello Michael, thank you for sharing your latest practise session, well done to you, I too have been playing a few years now and love the Shadows music, you are correct when you say we must practise all the time, this is so important. I believe you are a better player than you give yourself credit for, the better we play the more confident a player we become, as we master our nervousness we improve greatly, you are so tense with your hands so rigid that you are unable to relax your fingers to play fluently, this is not at all easy. May I suggest that you hold your tremolo arm with the little finger of your right hand all the time you are playing until you are so used to playing with it, you will use it automatically without giving it a thought, the difference in tone/sound will be enormous and you will feel happier with your playing and therefore start relaxing naturally. Also if you live anywhere near a Shadows Guitar Club please go along, you will learn much more quickly and they will help you. Happy playing. Kind regards, Mel
  • I think you sound great I'm just starting out playing lead iv just got a positive grid spark amp gonna have a play about with that and hopefully be able to get near the shadows tone ,I think you play great keep it up 👍
