Former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant opens up on never getting a fair chance in the league, his relationship with Jerry Jones, Romo, breaking generational curses, Cowboys organization, CeeDee, Dak and Lamar Jackson MVP

Chaos in Dallas seems to be something familiar and after a shocking wildcard loss this past wknd, Ryan, Fred and Channing are sitting down with former star wide receiver Dez Bryant opens up and telling all about what really went on inside the Dallas Cowboys organization.

Dez will go down as one of the top Dallas Cowboys receivers to wear the star, but the stories and attention that followed #88 for a decade is what the former WR is sharing about dealing with pressure, expressing the disadvantages to succeeding in big D and lack of family support growing up motivating him to make a change in his own adult life. In an emotional conversation, Dez reveals never-heard-before stories and the inner workings of his life and career.

Opening up about the dysfunctional relationship between him and former head coach Jason Garrett, the lack of locker room bond between teammates, the feeling of being set up to fail and his complicated bond with the Jones family, Dez talks about how playing for Dallas was a blessing and a curse in one.

Bryant says that he was never given a fair opportunity to learn or mature when he reached the NFL, and the media’s portrayals of him stemmed from preconceived ideas of who he was. Grateful for an unlikely mentor, Dez expressed gratitude for Entertainment mogul Jay Z for lifting him up and supporting him through the chaos.

In order to “X out the negativity,” Bryant became a three-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in touchdown receptions in 2014. While he may be remembered most for his infamous no-catch against the Green Bay Packers in 2015, he shines a light on the troubles of that season and the pivot he made to survive.

Talking about his childhood through his recent attempts to help the future of the game. Whether it was family, teammates, coaches, reporters or friends, Dez is candid about the relationships he cultivated over the years, remaining open and honest when it comes to misunderstood narratives.

Being raised in a different scenario of having a mother who was barely a teenager at his birth created a bumpy road for Dez early on, and with a complex bond to his father, Dez was often independent and trying to make it on his own. Football went from a simple game to his ticket to a new life, and with a mom or dad rarely in attendance, Dez had to self teach hard lessons while trying to find his way.

With a life full of adversity, Dez remains himself to this day, and being away from the game as a player has allowed for him to focus on helping others and supporting his family in ways he couldn’t be supported as a kid.

New episodes drop on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. ET and Fridays at 3:30 p.m ET on YouTube, with audio available on all streaming platforms including Apple, Spotify and Amazon.

Hats off to Fred. He hugged him to encourage him but he also understands the mother dynamic of being a child to a young mother. I love how this podcast brings out the human in these athletes.

The paragraph that Dez read about putting positive thoughts and energy into your kids was special. I teared up hearing that. Much love to the Pivot and Dez. This was an outstanding episode and I hope Dez keeps getting opportunities like this to share is story, and shine.

When he said "I never had none of that" that pierced my heart. You never know what someone is going through. One time for Dez

RC, Chan and Fred… What makes this Podcast Special is that you’ve created a space where it’s okay for a Black Man to Cry!! I’m in tears now typing this and I’m completely okay with saying that I’m in tears. Thank you Strong Black Men!!!! Much more success to you ALL!!!!

When he read off how to get rid of generational curses…man that just rocked me. I truly felt that. 😢
  • As a Cowboys fan I completely understand what Dez is saying how the media portrayed him and how the organization and league never helped push his story and always shown him in a negative light. The only people around here that knew the real Dez were the ones who actually went out of there way to learn about him. Much respect to the pivot for once again shining a light on the man behind the player.

I don’t usually post on YouTube videos but this…. This show is vital to our community. You created a open space for strong black men to be vulnerable and expose stories that honestly keeps us weighted down. Big props to Pivot🙏🏿

I felt that when Dez said he dedicated the game ball he had with the ravens to his daughter. I can tell it was special bc all he ever wanted was his family to see him play but they always had excuses. So hearing his kids say they want to see him play meant the world and God was able to bless him for that moment. Keep aspiring to inspire Dez and salute to y’all for always bringing out the real in these athletes 🫡

The seed Dez Bryant planted with what he read about the impact of the parent on their children is going to grow into the life breathing forest that OUR community needs. We as parents have to stop feeding negativity into our children. Our kids parish both physically and mentally by the words we speak. DEZ journey brought him to this moment to educate all of us on how we have to change. Thank you Mr. BRYANT

As a man about to have his first child I really needed to hear this episode especially when he read that paragraph about his children I’m tearing up as I write this right now.
  • @jblack530
Big props to Dez for sharing his story. A lot of people don’t know/realize how spiteful woman can tear down a household. I had numerous friends who’s step parents didn’t care about them simply because they weren’t their kids. Shits disgusting.
  • I love when a Black man not afraid to speak out against the system. ✊🏿💪🏿🗣
  • Props to The Pivot for showing that athletes are humans who have some of the same issues as regular folks. All the things I knew about Dez to this point were negative. He had so much emotion in what he was reading about parents and kids. Love Fred Taylor for who he is and what he just did for Dez. It seems like a small gesture but Dez will remember it.
  • @jn7891
I miss Dez on Sundays. He could change the game at the drop of a hat and is the epitome of the American dream.
  • @oseimoreland8032
Man I swear I didn't intend to watch this full episode but I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Hats off to Dez for opening up like this. Wish you guys the best!
  • @PanamaFlash
Much respect to Dez!!! This show is so important man! I can’t say I didn’t tear up at least 3x
  • @michaellopez2405
I’m dealing with Rectal Colon Cancer and while in treatment I watch your show and for 90 mins I don’t have any problems. What you guys are doing is exactly what we as sports fans needed. Big Steelers fan for a long time so I know you Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor you and I are the same age I followed you at Florida when I’m a huge Hurricane fan from Nebraska. My first NFL jersey was your Jaguar jersey and was great to see you play when I could. Channing I don’t know much about you but love your style. Just wanted to say thanks for contact your covering. Just one wish is for you to talk about colon cancer and the symptoms and that use men need to take our pride out of the away and get check either for the symptoms or just cuz you turn 45. Not looking for any anything just trying to get the word out so others don’t have to go through this. If your reading this thanks for taking the time.

As a father, this episode really touched me especially when Dez, broke down after saying what he had to say about how impactful we are to our kids and what we say to them at night matters. It affects them going into the next day. I honestly love this show and you guys never miss. Great episode my guys and continue the amazing work you provide for us all around the world to watch and learn from.
