It's the nutmeg that makes the recipe. I first learned about the combination in The Flavor Bible by Page and Dornenburg, which I would highly recommend to anyone as a great reference.

A restaurant that I used to love to go to many years ago with serve crabcakes on a bed of cream spinach. Now is my favorite way to serve crab cakes!
